I'm looking to get more jobs and upwork.com seems to be a reliable website for freelancing.  I've landed one entry level gig that rated me 5 stars to help boost my profile so far.  Was just curious if anyone else has had success on this website, how you went about landing a gig, or if you can refer me to anyone you are currently working for on there.  I'm also open to other freelance website suggestions.  Thank you.

I never got a job from Upwork, but earned a lot transcribing for Rev.com.

That's cool!  What's your experience been like using rev.com?

I type about 60 words per minute and that wasn't enough to be able to make minimum wage there. I was desperate for money at the time, and did it anyway, and earned hundreds of dollars from the site over a number of months.

The files were at times fascinating, and at times aggravating. Depends on what you get.

And there are deadlines... so I wouldn't call this low-stress.

People who earn the equivalent of minimum wage or over are typing around 100 words a minute or more.

Sounds good. Mine is about 80 wpm. I'll check it out. Any tips on how to go about landing the gigs?

At first, you'll first get the worst jobs ever. Bear with it and just do the best you can. After about ten jobs, you'll be in the next level. There's a queue to pick your jobs out of. That's the intermediate level. Eventually you get to the top level where all the newest and best jobs are available. It takes time, but some of the jobs are very interesting. I learned a lot from the people I typed for, including a well-known investigative news show, court cases, the Forest Service, movie makers, and many more. By the time you get to the top you'll have a good idea of what types of jobs you like most, and which ones you can't tolerate so well.
