ups mail box, more expensive than they say

I stopped at the ups store about a week ago and asked them about a mail box. They told me that it costs $20.00 a month. That sounded good but I didnt get one that day. So I went back today to get one and it ended up costing me $93.00. I had to pay 3 months in advance $60.00 plus a $13.00 key deposit then $20.00 set up fee. What a surprise. At least now I have an address instead of the old camper parked around the corner.

It cost me $90 every 6 months for the smallest box at the post office.&nbsp; They also have a key fee.&nbsp; Here is rural Alaska we don't have home delivery of mail and are required to pay for a box whether its at the post office or in a cluster box in the neighborhood.&nbsp; Some people have a "cluster" of personal mailboxes at the beginning of a road or subdivision but for me its a mile from the house on the highway and theft and damage to boxes is frequent.&nbsp; I'm not impressed with the US postal service.&nbsp; I'm sure it'll be an extinct entity in the near future.<br />Rae

We had a post office box at our last home because it was a rural area off the mail route.&nbsp; Very reasonable and no 'setup' fee.&nbsp; I'm sure the price differs from PO to PO but ours was only $28 for six months.

You can have many items shipped to the post office, hold for pickup.&nbsp; many post office locations will do this, as long as it is only for a month.&nbsp;

Wow I had a box at a package store and didn't pay any where near that price I don't think it was more than $20 per 6 months!

<strong>Just a little caveat, If your using a mailbox store for your residential address, your state may not recognize that address, especially if your state buys into the federal Real ID Act</strong>. <strong>I had the displeasure of finding that my state (Pa) had canceled my driver's license, and wanted it back without giving me a reason. 8 long days later, i finally reached a person who gave me a proper answer. While i had used this address for more then a couple of years, i was informed that Pa requires an actual residential address (something that's impossible for a full-time vandweller). Anyhow, i was able to arrange for a street address, which satisfied the state, but am something i'm more aware of now.</strong>

My PO costs $22 for six months, no setup fee.&nbsp; Since we are rural, the USPS will deliver, but there are just too many problems with mailboxes, like drunken rednecks with baseball bats!&nbsp; LOL!!&nbsp; $22 seemed a small price to pay for security for my bank statements.<br /><br />I always love history, and USPS has such a rich one.&nbsp; Can you imagine how different pioneer days would have been if we'd had no postal service, or pony express?&nbsp; it quite literally helped open the continent.&nbsp; Just a thought.&nbsp; <img src="/images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif" alt="" align="absmiddle" border="0" />&nbsp; It would take a major change in the Article One of the US Constitution to shut it down.

Hi All,&nbsp;<br />I had a Postal Express box for a couple of years as USPSjust didn't offer what I needed. Mine cost $80 a year and if I wanted mail sent to me or to another address, I had complete control of what, when and where I wanted it sent. They required a credit card number or some money left with them in escrow and it cost me whatever it cost them to send it.<br /><br />It was not my residential addie and I didn't even ask about that, so no help there.<br /><br />The big problem is that the owner decided to go out of business and one week later they were done. That caused a lot of us a pile of PITA since the USPS did not recognize my box there as an address separate from the street addie of the business...egads it took writing to everyone that sent me mail to change the address.. I know for a fact that I still have mail that is lost. The PO would not&nbsp; or could not forward my mail from there since it was everyone's mail. I will never use one again because of that unexpected experience.<br /><br />I have a friend who uses a business for his postal addie that puts his mail online for him and offers many more services like billpay, etc. and it cost about $40 a month.<br /><br />Bri
