I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX with fully adjustable drivers seat. I discovered after I bought it that it is notorious for uncomfortable seats specifically the drivers seat.

To me the problem is TOO much cushion and not enough form support. Wondering what other Odyssey owners (or other vehicle owners) have done to make seats more comfortable especially for long road trips.

I have noticed this on Toyotas too. I can't dive a Toyota for a hour without having extreme back and butt pain. I solved it by driving them as little as possible. highdesertranger

Years ago I owned a '70 VW van that had seats that weren't so great. I came across some buckets out of a Renault R10 for $20. The Renaults were cheap econo cars but had some really comfortable seats. It was pretty easy to install them in my van and it made a world of difference.

So anyway, you could research which cars out there that have really comfy seats and then find some on craigslist or a junkyard. Search Honda forums; maybe someone has made such a switch and could give you some tips on installation.

PS: the gel pads used on wheelchairs might be good for butt comfort. They can be expensive though.

The easiest thing to do is buy the same seats at a junk yard with little mileage. There are low mileage junk cars of all types. And when the guy takes you out to remove them, look how he does it ;-)

My 94 Dodge Dakota 6 cylinder had to have new seats, but it was 18 years and has 330k miles when I parted with it.

Seats wear out/break down: Small Jap (or any small) cars esp. ALL seats are cheap at the Junk yard. It's good to get the seat engineered for your vehicle: just ask the DMV.
