I know one person who spoke to the police about their reversed passenger seat, and they said it was okay as long as the passenger was belted.

I got a set of lap belts from the auto store for about $10. When I turn my seat in the Astro, I stick the lap belts on the bolts before placing the seat and bolting it down. I can turn the seat in about 10 minutes if I have a passenger that wants to face forward. I drove a few of the Pahrump guys to Vegas and back facing rearward and they didn't complain.

I can see my rear view mirror just fine if I remember to put the seat upright before driving. I love to recline it and use my action packer as a footrest. It also faces me towards my shelves with my gear and stove for cooking. I absolutely love it, and am so grateful to Tara who first taught me.

I don't like to let Mutt sit in it when I'm driving, since he faces forward to look out the window. If the air bag deployed he'd take the seat right in the face, if the seat latch didn't hold. That could be deadly to a dog. The policeman who spoke to Tara did not think it would affect a belted
Rearward facing passenger. I always inform my passengers of that anyway. I've thought of disabling the air bag, but it is so rarely an issue that I have not done it.

I do not have room in the astro for a swivel mount without sacrificing "aisle" space between the two front seats.
