The Dire Wolfess

I don't know myself, but wouldn't be too surprised if Carolyn shows up at the Womens-RTR, giving seminars. She is an FOB (friend of Bobs) of course.

I ended up subscribing and watching her videos last night for a couple hours. She's fun, straight-forward, plain speaking, and really smart. I'd wish her every success but it seems she's pretty successful already. She's happy and living the life she loves.

& advice for solo women.

I happened upon Carolyn's vids at some point, but it was really Bob who got me on the road initially, with the specific how to's and his great philosophy. I was reading Lloyd Khan's book Builders of the Pacific Coast, and I found an off grid van in one of Lloyd's books that I really liked. Then I found a link mentioned in the Mother Earth News which led to finding CRVL online. IMO Bob's workamping vids and bucket vids are groundbreaking journalism, and have freed many to live off grid in a practical way.

I found Carolyn's work later. Carolyn has more of a rig than I will probably ever have, so our experience is different. I really appreciate going along (by video) on Carolyn's intrepid adventures though, that true grit thing. The real story behind how she got to a great camping spot, kept warm, organized her RV, and all the rest. I especially appreciate her vids about sketchy camping spots. Who hasn't been sketched out a time or two, but Carolyn is there on cam documenting the experience. And there's blue sky at the end of each vid, the focus on how she got through it and not being defeated by adversity. Thank you Carolyn.   ~crofter

BTW, Lloyd has a new book project Hit the Road, Jack: Adventure Rigs and looking for contributions.

Intrepid is the word. I've seen a lot of videos and she personifies .... just do it.

RVSue is pretty good too. Do you have any other women to suggest? Maybe someone here? (CaravanCarolyn is ok, but rarely ever travels alone, so doesn't quite have the grit thing down).

My personal role model for van life is an artist who traveled solo in a succession of vans as she did her art in the back-country. She applied her talent for design to her rig as well, lots of innovations. She used open space in her rig so she could exercise and work inside,  instead of having it full of stuff.  Her travels were solo, but her art was the main thing. She has passed on now, living before you tube her van life is preserved in pictures and quotes, and was documented in one of Lloyd Kahn's books..                      ~crofter

Pippi Peterson is fun.  She has a huge rig well above what most of us will have or might want even if we could afford it, but she does all kinds of projects, like reflooring, tearing out her countertops and replacing them with something unusual, installing solar, installing insulation, working underneath the rig, etc.  She has a definite go-get-'em spirit.
