OK , Now that's more like it. I looked at Lance a while back and was impressed with what I saw. They are completely modular, and if one part of it has a booboo, you can unbolt it and slap another one on it.
I wonder if their parts will still exchange with a 1990? I'd almost bet they do.
-Bruce

Hey Bruce, Well I didn't know that. That's just more good news about my favorite campers.
They seem to be the Cadillac alright...

I've heard it referred to as a "Mini Penthouse" in the world of campers.
-Bruce

Not sure I believe this one ::: This guy dreaming or what? Check out the asking price!

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/rvs/3903458121.html

I know what you mean though ::: You want to come driving into a nice little beach camp scene
in this ::See picture #1)

or this ::See picture #2)

And to lose your lunch, see picture #3 which shows inside camper in pic #2!
Man I think if I saw that bathroom I'd lose more than my lunch and then wouldn't
need to use that scurvy room in the first place...!

I can't believe the crap people try to sell on Craig's! Those old heavy wood framed campers,
no matter what shape they are in, should just go straight to the dump. They are worth a
minus amount of monetary inverse!

This guy says.. "It needs cleaning!" Well now there's a new sales pitch!
Oh yeah, bring your cash and your barf bag!

Here it is ::: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/rvs/3891504519.html

Nothing a fire hose can't fix. Seriously though, it looks like it has been sitting for a while and has a layer of dirt on top of the toilet, etc.
I bet it will clean up fairly nice.
-Bruce

I'm not sure that one is going to be excessively heavy. I looked the Caribou up, and it seems it is built by Fleetwood. Fleetwood has been building RV's forever, and I would bet they have an aluminum or metal frame. One of the hits I got said they are light for their size.
Anyway, I also found a youtube video showing it in more detail. The guy is a dealer, so keep that in mind when you see his price.

-Bruce

There are some amazingly light wood studded campers out there and one just has to do a bit of research to find them. There are also ones that are pure crap.. but the same can be said for the new units. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for an old(er) one in good condition though, and that's with everything working. Around where I live (B.C.) there are often older units being given away posted on Craigslist; I've picked up a couple. ..Willy.

Hey guys, Really appreciate all the great input response. I just learned a great deal about that camper and Fleetwood. Did not know any of it B4!
So did you check out the shampoo and conditioner dispenser and the fact that if you see trim around the cabs at the roof for instance that it is most likely to hide a poor fit & finish. OK so I'm a Car A Boo guy now! Seems like they may be just a bit less expensive but I love the interiors... Just like the Lance!

Hi Morgan, that camper van looks pretty good, but I thinks she is high on her asking price.
I note it's 24 years old, (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and no mention of mileage?
I have seen one for sale for $3500 that is just like the one you posted, albeit it was a dump compared to this one.
Another point, I believe that one will have a 460 in it. 460 = good power, but bad mileage.
I had a 93 E-350 that had a fuel injected 460 and got around 13 mpg with no load in it if I drove it easy. It also had a 4 speed automatic transmission. This camper is a lot heavier, so fuel economy will be less. A lot depends on how you drive it.
-Bruce

Hey Bruce, Agreed. In my research thus far there has been one thing that had I been ready to buy, I would not be interested in. That is the 460, 454 or other similar engines. They are only good for one thing and that is raw torque! As the old saying goes.. "can pass everything but a gas station!"
I like the old Chevy C Classes with the 350's!
I'm a diesel man myself! This is one reason I would eventually like to move up to the behemoth diesel pushers.. Everything in time ::: There are some old Chevy C Classes with diesels but I have no point of reference regarding their performance or reliability. The mileage is about 10-14 on all of them though.

Just really clean inside that one though and interesting how the layout uses such minimal space to include a fully featured traveler 0:::0!

I think that a 460 wouldn't be too bad on gas if one had a standard tranny (and knew how to use it) and hauling a heavy load. Thing about those engines is all that power is.. tempting. Accelerating up a long 'n steep hill sure is nice, but better hope there's a gas station at the top. ..Willy.

Naa for my $$$, I'll take a diesel any old day. Last longer, less maintenance and always cheaper at the pump. Too bad DC idiots got the price of diesel off the scale right now tho'... M

Hey Guys, Funny we should be talking about the big classic V8's and look what I found now!
I'll have to eat my words about the 460/454 rigs if I share this one with you...

This is interesting to me because if this were January 2014 and I'm getting plans to jet and found this rig, I would be looking at it for sure.
I like the A Classes but would never want an old one. This one is not new enough to be 40 grand but not old enough to have too many miles on it.
She's a land yacht! 460 Ford. I've heard really good things about the Fleetwood rigs.
This would be in the high end of my price range too. Maybe offer 'em 10 grand or so.
I've been thinking overhead camper but something like this would let me jump straight to the A Class.
I could live with that! I got pretty excited looking at this ad... I'm a restless boy!

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/rvs/3909494077.html

A big ol' class A is a dream to live in.. and a nightmare when trying to camp anywhere off pavement. Not too bad in places like Arizona, but still not ideal. ..Willy.

Hi Willy, ever heard of the seven P's? Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!!
For once in my life I am taking the time to truly evaluate a plan and look at all sides of all possibilities.
Getting the voice of experience from others is the most valuable information I could get right now so I appreciate your taking the time to com.

For me as an RVer, I'm no mountain man, I have health issues that require certain things in a rig and I do want to travel and see some places and people so the A being known for it's comfort on the open road would be a great choice. Also, I have found RV Parks that let you stay by the month for as little as 400 off season. These places have huge pools which would help me so very much as I love to swim and it is good for the health. Just a few months here and there perhaps. A time to get used to the new "home" and make some changes/improvements on the interior. Always a contractor! I just really want some place I can ride my mountain bike, go roller bading, go swimming and write my music/work on my book.

So now I find myself in a very interesting place. The potential for adventure and the ingredients of the panacea for boredom! Perhaps next year we'll finally get to meet up somewhere...
I could see myself here... M
