Wednesday evening I received what I thought was a robocall claiming to be The V.A. conducting a Town Hall Meeting. Just prior to hanging up I decided to play along but not give any information if asked.

As it turns out it was real. They had culled 9000 Vets who had had Primary Care appointments in the last 90 days and were wanting feedback and also the floor (as it were) was open for questions with Patient Advocates taking any question with a promise to answer then or within 24 hours. The call lasted an hour and a half, I signed up to ask a question but they ran out of time, or recognized my number and put me on ignore) J/K.

Many of the questions involved treatment away from the Vets home region. The moderator, who I had never heard of, deferred to the Dallas Chief of Staff who said that was a priority as was coordinating the use of the health cards that to me so far have been worthless. There were a great many calls on about every subject you can think of and I won't bore you with the details, but they did ask for a vote about continuing the telephone Town Meetings. 90% were in favor of them versus the in person meetings. Out of the 9000 called 900 took part.

Shumski seems to be trying to get the VA in some sort of order. I personally trust the VA as far as I can chunk my truck but I am willing to give them a chance.

I type this in case some of the Vets get a call asking about participating. Listen for a bit. It's not a robocall. I remember the responses from many of the quesstions so if anyone has a question maybe I can tell you what their reply was.

On another note, 25% of he participants were female. There were many gender specific questions that seemed pertinent. I mentor a young woman who is a Marine and she has asked me many of the questions these women were asking.

Peace to all....

Part of me thinks "at least they're getting your input", but my practical/cynical side thinks "they are trying to damage control so some ******* can keep his job".

My entire contact with the VA involved some buttmunch losing or getting his laptop stolen from his home and all my personal info being stolen, social security number, DOB, everything needed to take my identity. Like you, I trust them about as far as I could chuck your truck.

They did mention a new three tier system to terminate the incompetent staff, that will be a wait and see as the Civil Service comes into play.

A few months ago I was told my former Primary Care ( a Physicians Asst.) had been called up to go to Iraq It was told to me to get him some sympathy. I told the Asst. Administrator that Dan McIntire didn't give a F about me dying and I didn't give an f about him dying. I did not shorten the word to him. I was shown the door.

I was thrilled that my dad used Tri-Care For Life rather than the VA, he still died young at 73 (I blame Agent Orange for his weird cancer), but he got decent care while he was alive.

I wonder if I'll get the robocall. I'm in a large metro area. I'll watch for it.

waldenbound, I am in the Dallas-Ft Worth area, the caller ID showed Oklahoma as the origination, that's why I thought robocall. They are supposed to be doing these things nationwide. It was legit but it took awhile for me to be convinced.

Could possibly just be more lip service, who knows?
