Anyone traveling to/through Baja lately? Any issues crossing from US to Mexico? We are having trouble with conflicting information regarding pleasure travel in Baja.

:D :D Gracias!

All your information should be sourced from the official government websites. I was just told something by a person yesterday but it did not prove out to be accurate innformation posted on any of the official websites.

We have family in Tuscon that crossed three times in the last six weeks to Puerto Penasco(RockyPt) with no problems. We like to cross in San Luis(Yuma) for our Baja trips.  Curious if anyone has traveled recently through any of these areas, thanks for your time!

I have some Facebook friends who've been in Baja since October, camping all along the Sea of Cortez. They're currently in Cabo San Lucas.

This month I made a couple of dips into Los Algodones to order and pick up new eyeglasses. Everyone seem to be practicing proper pandemic protocols, except some of the folks in line at the crossing.

I know someone that was murdered down there not to long ago.

Crazy stuff going on with gangs and control. People are still vacationing and pretending "nothing to see but sun".

There is a FB group that is heading down there any day. It’s a guy that takes people down a lot. There is no charge by him at all but he lets you know what you will need before hand. He spent a few days in YARC Camp

Look him up on face as “Baja Frank Tour”

A Mexican travel blogger recently did a series of stunning YouTube videos on Baja. You can see them here:

It's in Spanish, and of course it doesn't have any information about the actual border crossing since he didn't have to cross a border to get there, but it might be worth a look if you're curious about the area. I had no idea what an amazing place Baja is before I saw this. FWIW (not much -- and I wholeheartedly agree you should get your safety info from reliable sources), safety as an issue didn't come up once in the videos. That sort of thing can be hard to assess, especially with rumors flying. Tourists aren't the main target for most of what's going on. But still, caution, and above all careful research, = good idea!

I went to Baja twice in the last two months. Didn't have any trouble crossing southbound, return trip was another story. Do not recommend the Mexicali/Calexico crossing; finding the correct lane is extremely difficult, even google maps will try to send you through a cardholder fast-pass situation (ended up detained 2hrs and searched, no fine because first offense). South of the border seems to be taking C19 precautions a lot more seriously than north of the border, so safe on that front.

Previous times I've used the Yuma/Los Algodones crossing, or the one at Tecate, zero issues. Baja is a wonderful place, hope you have a fun visit!

My friend decided he just had to have some Mexican planters. God knows why. So he and a male friend crossed the border at Tijuana, bought their planters and got pulled over and their car completely taken apart. I mean panels pulled off, everything. The federales decided he was a drug smuggler. He doesn’t speak Spanish or he could have paid a bribe and saved some damage to his car. I suspect having lived and traveled pretty extensively they really just wanted his money since TJ is filled with Americans buying alcohol and junk.
Oh and no drugs were found and no lesson was learned. I told him next time to say he had gone for the planters and he was really sorry was there some sort of fee he had forgotten to pay as soon as he was pulled over BEFORE they tore up his car. This bs is why I stopped crossing the border.
