Insurance in Mexico

I am soon heading towards Mexico from Ontario Canada, and plan on heading down to the Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.
I have read many posts on a few forums about insurance issues...some are conflicting with others...

Anyone here, especially if from Canada, head into mexico with their van, and what procedures, doumentations, insurances do I need to make sure I have before I cross
the border.

What is the Canadian department that's the equivalent of the US State Department? They might have advice on this sort of thing.

Also (even more likely), the Mexican embassy/consulate nearest you.

You want to get this exactly right, and not just go with what somebody on a forum says. Too much at stake.
