Does anyone else dread this unavoidable periodic chore as much as I do?

By the time I drag out the 2 hoses & hook 'em up (about 75 feet), attach the rotary sprayer poopie tank cleaner & bring it inside, shut off the water to the camper, turn ON the water to the outside spigot for the hose, dump both tanks, rinse the poopie tank, turn off the spigot water, put the sprayer & hoses away, close the tank valves, turn camper water back on, & add the orange stuff to the poopie tank, it takes me about an hour. WHEW!

For some reason, I dread this yucky chore like the plague, but luckily, I only have to do it about once a month.

Howdee seems like a lot of work. Welcome, some people are really disgusted by what comes out the tailpipe of OUR bodies yes OUR BODIES but what goes in must go out. Many cultures hold great respect for awareness of how our feces smells color and firmness these are all important signs to reading our health. Less animal products like meat cheese and more whole grain veggy and water. I am not a dietician but experimenting on my diet has led me to be able to control the odor regularity and overall
reading I get from looking, no I don't pick it up and take it apart ( not that advanced yet) Have fun with your rig it sounds like a complicated puzzle you will figure out. I found if I dumped more often, like once per week and just ran some clean water through the drain hose , the tank was not so rank. On my way down 95 I dumped and rinsed each fuel stop. I don't know what the orange stuff is, but I use a powdered bacteria for septic tanks. Seems to smell better than not.
The orange stuff works great. Lucky for me, too, cuz I HAVE to use it, since I'm dumping into my septic tank. I can't use the blue stuff, for danger of contaminating my ground water, cuz I have well water, so I have to use non-poisonous, formaldehyde-free tank chemicals.

This is the most awesome poopie-tank rinser ever, with a rotating brass head, & one-hand, off & on thumb control, which is pretty much a necessity when, like me, U don't have a helper to turn water off & on from outside, and also, when U need your other hand free to hold the toilet valve open while rinsing:

The rotating head does a great job, like a rotary pressure wash, but unfortunately, even this thing won't fix my gauge problem. After dumping & rinsing, the gauge shows empty, but as soon as I add the 2 oz of orange stuff & 1/2 gallon of water, the gauge jumps back up to 2/3. I guess it's just totally skrood.

Yes! SirJoey! I hated it so much, I sold that RV and now have a little van and a coffee can. Much easier!

Have you considered not using the toilet, especially during the winter? I've never done this but there are other posts whereby people line a portapotty with double plastic bags and kitty litter, then just toss it in the trash (outside). That's what I do with my coffee can, without the litter, for solid waste. So much easier! At least until you get your sewer line installed.

Best wishes and good luck!

Btw, you did an awesome job on skirting your trailer. I would hire you!
Thanx, Stargazer! Actually, my sewer line IS all installed & finished. I just have to drag out a couple of garden hoses each time, to reach from the outside spigot to the toilet for rinsing. It's just a lot of running back & forth, going out to the pumphouse to turn off main water to the camper, & turn on the other line which supplies the spigot. Plus, when I'm all done, the hoses have to be drained before rolling them back onto the hose rack, to prevent them from freezing & busting. Then, the spigot has to be covered back up to prevent it from freezing as well.

Once summer sets in, at least I'll be able to leave the water to the spigot turned on, & I'll be able to leave the hoses hooked up, & all that. That'll simplify things somewhat, at least till the return of cold weather.

Yes, due to the added hassle caused by the cold weather, I have considered the bucket option. In fact, I already have one of the Luggable Loos, but I haven't used it yet. It's more of an emergency backup, in case of an extended power outage, during which I would have no water, as my water is dependent on my well pump.

I'm sure I'm going to hate it but you do what you gotta do. Camco makes a nice attachment you can get now for pretty cheap:

Basic model:
http://www.amazon.com/Camco-39072-Flush-Holding-Rinser/dp/B000BUU5T0

Fancier mode; with a built in valve to backfill the tank and flush it a second time without going back in the RV:
http://www.amazon.com/Camco-39062-Flush-Holding-Rinser/dp/B000BUQOAE

I am going to get one of those.. just not sure which yet.

My van has a recirculating toilet so the toilet is itself the holding tank. The drain valve for it is built into the toilet so you have to go inside to drain it after you hook up the hose which is a little annoying. Due to that setup, grey water has a separate outlet. I suppose it could be possible to combine it into one but the original setup had separate outlets so I am going to keep it that way when I get a new grey water tank installed.

I lived in a 67 Shasta for 6 months in an RV park and had to walk to the bathroom day or night, rain or shine. I had cold city tap water and a sewer hookup in the trailer but no toilet, shower or hot water heater.

Lol. You sound like my hubby. He dreads the job, but most the time won't just let me deal with things. After two years of baby diapers and working on farms, doesn't faze me.

What!!! I have been living in a camper for like 4 months now, never done anything accept dump my tank, I have to rinse it??!! Why?
