Saw this and now getting some for my first aid kit. Yup, ain't exactly cheap but.. how much do ya think you're life is worth? Quick Clot

Not only your own life but possibly someone else's. Sounds like a good investment.

Reading some of the comments, it stopped a femoral artery bleedout cold! Now, that's some impressive. ..Willy.

As a kid we had a powder form in the barn for use on animals. I remember plenty of times we sprinkled some on a cut.
Its made up of aluminum sulfate & potassium alum.
Basically powdered version of a styptic pencil.

I think the newer stuff is more complex chemically.

Just ordered one! Looks like others have, too, as Amazon only has a few left. Thanks for the tip, Willy!

I ordered one last night, the 50g size, since it was cheaper than the 25g size.. go figure. I wonder if I could open it, cut it in half, then use one of those vacuum sealers to make two 25g packs. prob'ly better to leave well enuf alone. ..Willy.

I also have a supply of the same blood clot item that I ordered from Amazon awhile back. Plus I got some similar stuff from REI sports in case of sports injury. Also have the small pencil stick blood clot for shaving cuts which you can buy from the local drug store. Plus got various related items such as gauze pads, and all type of first aid items.

I became interested in the whole "prepper" thing a couple years ago, and since then, I've been accumulating items that I think might save my life one day in case a natural or un-natural disaster occurs. I now have items in my prepper bag that I hope to never use, such as thyroid pills for nuclear radiation contamination, N100 rated face mask respirators in case of an airborne germ attack, etc. I'm just short of getting a full body haz-mat suit, and one of those Israeli designed face mask with a cannister of oxygen. :D Anyway, I digress. "Prepping" is a different topic.

I'm currently doing a long series of posts on my blog about "Poverty Prepping for Vandwellers." Vandwelling has a lot in common with survivalism and lends itself to it very well. Today's post was especially good if I say so myself!! :p You may want to check it out!

This stuff will go in the first aid post for sure!

Nice post Bob. I wish I had more storage for MRE food and water. Alas, I ran out of room like...last year, haha! I'm thinking I should rent storage space for the extra stuff I'd like to accumulate. Hmmmm.

One thing I'd like to mention is to have a 'puppy fund', all your spare change at the end of the day, and don't touch it save for vet bills. Adds up surprisingly quickly and vet bills can be HUGE. ..Willy.

great article bob. I use many of those same items in my pantry. I like the pistol and silver also. I am right there with you on all this. it never hurts to be prepared. just rotate. highdesertranger

While you are ordering your Quikclot, you should get some of these as an add on item:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-STERI-STRI...8&qid=1395208474&sr=8-3&keywords=steri+strips
For those of us who like to go off the beaten path, it can take awhile to get to the hospital. Steri strips work well to close wounds that will need stitching, helping keep dirt out while you are hiking back to your rig and minimizing scarring from bad cuts.

Thinking that this product might really be something cheap (like Vitamin K powder- which I'd never heard used in this fashion before) -- I read the comments to dig up the secret ingredient that stops serious bleeds.

And down at the bottom of the page was a critique by "Mountain Medic" -- who gives some insight into the pro's and con's of this product, how to use this product, and what choices he has made. (worth reading to know how to use it).
He said:
"(And again just imho, I stock 2 packets of 30g Cellox powder in my hip bag.)"
All in all... good to have for yourself or anyone else.
