I'm due for a big change by the first week of April and am trying to figure out the cheapest way to move out, find a dwelling (was thinking a class C) that my two kids would be able to somewhat comfortably stay in 50% of the time, and try to help their Mom pay the bills on the over priced home she moved into.

All while working at a part time job. Seems the new economy doesn't favor full time jobs anymore.

Anyway, had a thought that insuring both a small car and a Class C and maintenance on two vehicles might be more than I can budget right now and I decided to go look at storage sheds. When everything jumped in a basket and headed to Hades, I had thought of taking a storage shed and making a tiny home pout of it but had decided a Class C would be better.

Pulling into Home Depot I noticed a Class A sitting in the corner of the parking lot, a 5th wheel farther down the aisle and a Toyota Dolphin parked in the middle of the parking lot. There were also a couple of really clean white panel vans in the parking lot, far away from the entrance to Home Depot.

Driving by the Toyota, I noticed the tag was from Colorado. I also noticed they parked half in one spot, half in another. Not a good way to stay under the radar...

Was interesting to see such a number of vehicle dwellers on a Saturday afternoon.

I took a good long look at the sheds, there are some good models, with built in lofts and plenty of room. The largest had a second floor with stairs.

Going to think long and hard about using one for a tiny home, I think it would be very nice.

where would you put it or are you planning on leaving it in the parking lot at home depot

I had a 12' X 12" shed in MO. Twin bed, small wood stove Shower stall (36" wide)  Insulating it was easy, but missed something, when the wind blew from a certain direction, shed was VERY cold (Even with good heat from stove) but other than that minor thing, still had room to  move about oh and had 2 large dogs also...Storage? Yep, up above....pretty sweet and got it cheap, but gave up on property and everything....Oh well.

I believe in most places you need a "certificate of occupancy" or the government can boot you out.  Of course, how vigorous they are in enforcing such things varies from place to place.  Still, something to be aware of.

John

I'd move it to where my Parents and my Brother have homes, 20 miles out in the country. Don't think it would draw too much attention out there :)

While I am unfamiliar with the cost of storage sheds vs. motorhomes, buses, or travel trailers in your area, I would compare the costs of all of them, and then go with whatever makes the best financial sense.

Turning small sheds into homes is actually a pretty big thing now.  Lots of companies are making their sheds of a better quality with this in mind.

A van dweller i subscribe to just built a nice one and has videos of the build process.  Search rubbertrampsreviews.   There are a few others I will have to check when I have my ipad handy.

I would like to do something like that in the future if possible.

Hey, if that's true, have them deliver the stuff and DIY. You'll save a BUNDLE in that method....Many of those sheds can be built for 1/4 what they're charging.

That's not a bad idea... but part of the reason I'm considering the storage shed tiny home otion is the financing. I am not a fan of financing anything, but the monthly payments are so low it would barely be noticed in my budget.

Where I live there are three larger state parks.  One in Ohio, one in Kentucky, and the other in West Virginia.

Most of these have a Seniors rate from Monday through Thursday but as the Campground empties on Sunday
morning the Seniors often start moving back in.  (they finish the Sunday period of those who have left)  And then pay for Monday thru Thursday.  Then they pull out Friday morning and drive to the back sides of the Malls
during the day and by evening to any of the Lowe's, Walmart's, etc in the area.

This could be a reason why you see some retired full timers at these places in the evenings.   I'm noticing more and more of them during the week end day times where they park on the big grocery store parking lots for a few hours before moving on to another one,  or on the University overflow parking lots near the Stadium where so many Alumni come in a day or so before a big game on Sunday.  These often become tail gait communities
for a couple of nights before the game.   I notice most of them will purchase a Baseball Hat with the University Name on it to wear and get the wife a Tee Shirt in the College Colors.  This way they can find Friday & Saturday
night parking and return to the State Parks on Sunday for the Senior rate days.

I gotta start keeping a list of plans like that...............
