In the search for the next step in my on-board electrical system, I discovered the smart trolling battery box.  These are boxes that you put your own battery in.  At one end of the scale are boxes with an outlet for your electric boat motor and a voltage meter.  At the other end are boxes like the link below with inputs for solar or wind, charge protection, breakers or fuses and a variety of outlets including an inverter.
I found the first one on a battery site but, there are quite a few on Amazon too.  I thought some others might want to take a look at these.

I have had a simple MinnKota trolling motor battery box for maybe 8-9 years now. It's served its purpose well in my lead acid years, which are now ending.
 
Interesting to see how the price compares if you put together a similar one your self.. maybe not similar in construction, But similar in function
