My wife and I just had breakfast at a locals joint down by the beach, as we were waiting for our food an aging surfer dude came in with three young girls (his surfing pupils) maybe 14-15 years old. He sat them right next to us and proceeded to pontificate about the ills of women in sports, said it was just unwatchable; then he started enumerating "women's basketball is dyke ball, softball, don't get me started! Lez-dyke ball". This went on for a couple of minutes until I turned around and said COULD YOU GIVE IT A REST! He acted all offended and said "what" I today him the repeatedly saying dyke... This started him on a childish "oh I'm sorry I said dyke DYKE". The waitress finally kicked him out and he called us dykes a few more times on his way out.

I knew I'd run into this when we moved to a smaller southern town, but it's still disappointing.

I guess the plus side is he got booted, 20 years ago it would have been us.

We were just sitting there quietly enjoying the morning. Not sure why people have to spread their bigotry, we weren't bothering them at all.

As Ellen Degeneres says ""Do people really have to judge people on whether they're gay or straight? Can't we just judge them on the type of car they drive?"

And I thought a Dyke was something that held back  ;) (the tide)

You go Girl!  Redneck surfer dudes... What next.

Kinda surprised me but our neighbor (long time local) said they are some of the biggest rednecks around here. Who knew?

In the South???

(Skynyrd playing loudly)

My father almost threw me out in the 70's because I was boycotting Florida Orange Juice because of Anita Bryant.  Then I started pointing out to him our biggest and most polite customers as Gay.  He was drunk for a week after that.  (Stupid smart aleck teenager know it all!)

I am straight, but that is my life.  Married 4 times, I just love the ladies.

women in sports is awesome. A lot of people were against female mma, but now the biggest ufc star is a woman and i always found them very excitijng fighters. Not too hard on the eyes either ill admit. womens basketball just needs flasher standout stars for people to get excited about. They focus so much on passing and teamwork, they need a few showboats and badgirls like the nba [emoji14].

like to see him mouth off to her:

God, me too, Rhonda would wipe the floor with him.

Southern Wales, LOL!

We were trying to come up with a word for my super racist cousins in Boston, their behavior doesn't seem to be unusual in Southie but "redneck" didn't seem to fit... we thought maybe "whiteneck" since they're all pasty white year round?

Not only that , Ronda Rousey could stand with the majority of men she runs across in the world , having observed firsthand at both the Stockton and Torrance Gracie facilities , she's not just a " great fighter for a woman " , she's a GREAT fighter period.

Let me start by saying that I am not prejudiced, and I'm not judging you, even though what I'm about to say may sound a little bit harsh...

Your choices are nobody's business but your own.  By reacting to them, in their minds they likely chalked up a win.  Don't give them that satisfaction.  If you don't react to them, they will consider it a loss, and eventually they will give up on it.

For over 20 years I was a truck driver, and truck drivers get plenty of verbal abuse by irate motorists, even in some of the truck stops.  Just put these people on ignore and don't let them get to you.  Nobody's going to change their minds, and if you do react you're just making yourself a bigger target for later.

If you don't react, then YOU WIN!  You can then walk away with your head held high, knowing that you just ruined THEIR day.

Cheers!

OG, if he had been talking to other adults I would have ignored him, talking like that to three young girls is what made the difference.  It's just not okay to spew hateful crap to kids.  Might not have accomplished a thing, but sometimes you just have to stand up (or sit and swivel when you have a messed up leg.  :p ).

I can't explain why, but I got the feeling that they may have been willing partners in the crime...

Evening all!

Bigots and racists are not confined to one religion or other, nor to any particular geographical location - in point, they're everywhere, just as other a$$holes are. I agree with OG; it's best to just ignore them.

FWIW,

Jesse.
