It seems taking out one vertical row of cells is less disturbing than blocking one cell out of each row. Makes sense, since the current flows vertically ( with the panel on its narrow end).

the solution is simple. don't let shadows fall on your panels. period.

is that really a shadow? more like a blockout, I would have liked to see it with the cardboard a few feet away making a real shadow on the panel rather then blocking it out at such close range,
