I just stick to the legal sites like Crackle or Hulu. Sure you get some commercials, but you do on regular tv as well, and this way I don't have to worry about viruses from aggressive or misleading spam/popups/ads and links disguised as other things, like media players or 'accelerated downloaders'. Quality is usually better too.

has anyone tried streaming network tv series over wifi at say McDonald's or where ever there is free wifi? I'm wondering if the free wifi is fast enough

I use the network sites when possible and yes hulu never tried crackle but this was the only place I could find Stargate and startrek. Is it illegal? I have been using it for months with no problem.

Thanks for the link its my best guest is its probably illegal, but if it works it works. Im a Netflix fan myself.

Yes, it is illegal. You probably wont get in trouble, but they might get shut down. The main problem for you personally (beyond a moral one anyway) is those sites are rife with viruses and misleading links. I personally don't think they are worth the aggravation.

If there are shows i cant get any other way, i will sometimes torrent them...at least you can semi verify the source (tho you are more exposed to prosecution by the licensor of the content, as there is a virtual trail)

You can take precautions to protect yourself by installing Peerblock and turning it on to block everything. Enabling auto update will keep the lists up to date.

I did a bit of checking on this site and to be frank nothing would happen to you for using it Milly. As for it being legal or illegal, that can vary from country to country. Since this site appears to be based out of the Czech republic, I highly doubt they're worried about prosecution from a US based Hollywood lawyer. The most that would likely happen is those high dollar lawyers get the site owners ISP to pull the plug on them.

If you go with using Peerblock and enable it to block against all the base lists you ought to be fine.

I just tried Crackle and didn't see one movie I would want to see. I think I'm just getting tired and would rather listen to the radio

I'm partial to Netflix myself. At $7.99 a month for unlimited streaming it's a fair deal w/no commercials whatsoever.

Thanks guys for the advice. I do have the blocks up and only do instreams no file shares it is blocked. I keep my setting pretty tight and run complete malware scans at least 1 time a week. Nephew says he's always proud of me when he checks out computer. I keep the ugly stuff off here. I would watch the stuff from somewhere else but Stargate is almost impossible to find. We do buy the videos for them when possible but again not the easiest to find where it is affordable.

Use a tool called XBMC. There are plugins/ upgrades/ apps to install free Internet viewing for tv.

Just a heads up for anyone worried about going to any site and possibly getting hit with some malware... Download the Firefox browser, and then install No-Script. You have to set permissions for each website that you visit, and for each script that is running on a page, but you will get accustomed to it and saves you some worry.

I recommend it for streaming sites but I also recommend it for normal web surfing.

For firefox: http://noscript.net/
                https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

For Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb?hl=en
                 https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/scriptsafe/oiigbmnaadbkfbmpbfijlflahbdbdgdf?hl=en

I use all of these on my pc. The last version of script safe for google however gave me some issues where I'd have to re allow scripts each time I visited a website. It works though.

Good info dfh. I use the same things. I have just been using them so long that I forgot about them. I especially like the ad-blocker software.

I'm hoping to get major league baseball and football via internet. I have no use for TV other than sports but I do love my Mariners and Seahawks as well as Pac 12 college football. :)
