since we really don't have a tent section, I posted this here if it needs to be moved feel free.  here's my big tent I have now. it's a military GP tent it's what they call a vinyl.  it's like a vinyl impregnated canvas,  it's very strong and durable,  plus it's totally waterproof.  there is all kinds of accessories for it,  there is an insulated floor,  I have the plans for building a wood floor,  there is a forced air heater and a forced air AC available(separate units)  there is a liner available that's made to give added insulation.  every section has a stove pipe hole built in and an adjustable roof vent.  all the doors are storm doors or can be connected like a hall way to another tent.  the tent is modular it can be set up as a 18x18,  18x36,  18x54.  on mine I can only go 18x36 max. I would have to buy another section to go 18x54.  so all you non military types might be saying lets see it.  so here you go.

this pic is from the late 90's.  see the arrow.  it's pointing at buckets and gold pans,  I know big surprise.

different view,  this time the arrow is pointing at my chuck box that I posted about on another thread.
005.jpg
another view and of course more buckets.  the reason I posted these is for all the people that think Nevada is nothing but a big desert.  these were all taken in Nevada.

here's the road to this camp site.
 more to come.  highdesertranger

just putting the finishing touches on setting it up.  much different terrain here,  this is in the desert of So Cal.

you can see we got a light dusting overnight.  this tent can handle much more snow than this.

here's a shot of the inside.  notice the white arrow,  yep the chuck box.  the yellow arrow points to a wood stove also GI issue.  if you look real close you can see a fan on top of the stove.  this fan is awesome there is no batteries and you don't plug it in.  it works off of heat the hotter the stove the more it blows.  that's it for this series one more to come.  highdesertranger

see what the arrow is pointing at,  yep the chuck box. if you blow this pic up you can see a coleman water heater and a holding tank hooked to the sink.  this is I an area where you are not allowed to dump grey water on the ground..
DSC01326.jpg
last pic notice our cots on the outside of the tent.  this is because we prefer to sleep under the stars.  in this pic you can also see one of those refillable water fire extinguishers at the back of the trailer.  this goes everywhere with me.  well that's it for now.  I know this tent is not very practical  for most of you.  it takes at least 3 people to set up,  and weighs a ton.  just thought you might enjoy.  highdesertranger

That's a great tent, HDR. I was wondering how many people it took to set up, as I was looking through the pictures. You answered that question.

How often do you set it up and take it down?

Thanks, again for taking the time to post all the pictures.

just did tent camping at tullahassee, Ok in tents and the nights before that in Illinois Kaskaskia river. 3 tents.  only problem with them is they wre very wet and we had to wait for them to dry for hours.  this morning we tried for an early start so they were wet when we put them away for todays run into Texas.camp Kassasskia2.jpg  can anyone suggest a few good free tenting sites in New mexico and Arazona?  those are in the next few days!

Cyndi I prefer to be staying at least 3 weeks if there are 3 of us. if there is 5 or more of us we can cut that down to 4-5 days. however my problem is for the last 6 years is nobody wants to go out any more. since the economy tanked in 2008 most of my buddies don't travel anymore. I still use the poles for setting up tarps. these poles are unlike anything you find on the civilian market. they are beyond heavy duty. my next thread will show some tarp set ups. highdesertranger

wolf your post came in when I was replying to Cyndi. just a note it's ok to put your tent away wet just make sure you set it up in the next day or 2. do not leave it stored for more than a week wet. get it back up and dry it out. even if that is indoors. as far a New Mexico and Arizona 99% of BLM and Forest Service land is open to camping. NM and AZ has tons of both. highdesertranger

I can still remember the smell of those canvas military tents. When I was a kid in Alaska a friend and I pulled tent stakes on one of those huge military tents a church group was using for a service. The tent dropped on all of them and the ones who could get out chased us for miles. Lots of fun!

The odor of canvas tents on a hot summer day makes me :sleepy: .  I have spent some time in canvas tents.

my tent is not canvas, it's the newer type like vinyl coated fabric, like what they make inflatable boats out of. highdesertranger

Nice set-up.
If I wasn't "hardsiding" it, I'd have either a GP medium or a Berber tent. :) Guess I'm not much into small tents.
