I agree bob. Am going to experiment with PAGEPLUS next month. Supposedly a MVNO (reseller) of verizon. If they work might get Verizon cell service at half cost.

Straight Talk is an MVNO of Verizon also. But only if you use certain phones. My girlfriend is on an iPhone 4s via straight talk and has Verizon coverage everywhere they are.
 
For a non-data prepaid plan, I think Verizon's pay as you is a great deal. I have the $2 plan. Rather than going by minutes, you pay a flat $2 a day for unlimited service during that 24 hour period. If you compress all your calling down to 1 day a week, its possible to have phone service for $100 a YEAR.

Obviously if your the chatty type, this plan isn't cheap anymore. But to just have a basic phone for calling once in a while, and in emergencies, its a pretty great deal.
