Just walking around the local flea marked and I saw a nearly new Olympian Wave 6 catalytic heater with cover, propane hose, and regulator. I asked the seller "how much" and she said $10.00". I put the sawbuck in her hand faster than she could believe.

Checked it out at home and it's 100% operational.

Is this one too big for a large high top van?

killer deal. Imho it is to big, but at that price who could say no. how's the performance on the lowest setting? I'm sure you could always do a trade, maybe for a brand new unit. highdesertranger

Wow, what a steal! Depending where you live, it probably is a little too much heat for a van, but the worst that will happen is you have to turn it on and off to stay comfortable. Seems like a small price to pay to save $300!!

They really are the safest and best heater for a van. Olympian sells legs you can screw on so it is stand-alone

Came with the legs, regulator, hose and black cover. I was just too good to pass up. I think the Wave 3 would better suit my needs though.

I just love mine! I'm not in a van, though, but a small class C. While you have to start them out on the 'high' setting, you can then turn them down to 'low' which should be comfortable even in a van. It is just radiant heat and pretty limited to the area in front of it so it's not likely to overheat your whole van. You will need to be careful to keep it far enough away from anything that could catch fire and to provide two ventilation sites.

And of course, a CO detector is critical!

The manual will list the exact amount of venitlation it requires and give you clearances on all sides. Follow them like your life depends on it because it does!

Follow the manual and it is very, very safe. Fail to and it will kill you. That's true of ALL fuel burning appliances!

I came home for the gym one day and hung my wet towel above my Olympian to dry and went somewhere for breakfast.

When I came back the towel had fallen on the Olympain and had been smoldering and was just catching fire!! Had I come home any later I would have lost everything!!

You could always sell the Wave 6 on E-bay and use the proceeds to get a Wave 3 :) Wave 6 on Ebay is selling for around $300, and you can get a Wave 3 on Amazon for about $200.
