Just a quick update in case anyone cares. 
Had a mobile repair guy come a little while ago and do a house call for me in the Walmart lot. Replaced the VertaMax with a smaller 400w inverter. Also had the house battery tested--it's almost 4 years old and has well over 1000 cycles on it, and although it's apparently still putting out around 12.7 volts, its days are numbered anyway, so I went ahead and replaced that too.
