Has anyone ran solar panel wires from the roof thru the side vent of a cargo trailer? Good idea? Bad idea?

yes that's the better way to go. I was just trying to think of any options other than putting a hole in the roof. I think a wire thru the side vent might be asking for trouble. I was just thinking it could be snagged by a branch or something. So cable gland will do fine.

You could always install the cable gland next to the vent, or anywhere else on the top of your side walls, and still avoid the hole in the roof.

Be brave, put it on the roof. The proper sealants for the cable glans work very well. They also make wire gland for boats in a much better look for the fittings.
