I am looking into solar roof vents/ fans being a farm girl I knew about this unit and others like it, but it's very big, and that doesn't really bother me, but since I know nothing about watts/amps.volt ect or what I am reallt getting with each unit I turn to the experts:

From Farm tek:
http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ft1_electrical_supplies-ft1_solar_power;pg109725.html

I googled looking for smaller units and found this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Solar-Power...ries_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a7a23b859

I have been in vans with the smaller roof top vents and wasn't really happy with the pull they provided, I will always have pets in my vehicle so I want a strong unit..... can anybody explain what these unit will do for me?

I have a 97 conversion van.

thanks much,
Windy

I had a similar solar fan.

Actually I still have it, I just do not use the fan motor or solar panel, it is now just a mushroom vent, and I have 2 counter rotating Computer muffin fans exhausting air through it. One fan is rated at upto 110 Cubic feet per minute, the other at half that. I know they do not move their combined total, but it is a factor of 40 more than the solar vent itself when I have them on high.

My Fan was a Nicro brand, and it claimed ~1000 cubic feet per hour, which is nowhere near enough, but I never did suffer CO poisioning, so I guess it is enough to exhaust cooking gasses.

Note that the Vent you link to is 696 Cubic feet per Hour.

My Nicro vent became noisy after a few years. I now taped over the solar panel, and have removedthe fan blade.

Darn I already typed this once on this forum.

Here's a link showing my approach to ventilation:
https://vanlivingforum.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1275016057&postcount=12

I have heard from guys who spent a lot on a stainless steel solar boat vent that it was like having nothing at all...Just a report of hearsay though...
As usual YMMV....

I think I would rather go with a solar system and use a bigger 12 volt fan/vent like a Fantastic or Shur-flo.....

Bri

My biggest issue is I am just not handy with stuff like that, love the concept and I know that a better unit can probably be built, if I could say I was kinda handy it would be in carpentry and plumming, electronic baffles the heck out of me and I know it's simple , I have a mental road block in my head about it.... but I still feel compelled to learn it. I do better with hands on experience as well , thank you for the link and info!
