Still pretty darn pricey--and a rather large item to store.  There are many ways to make-your-own (on YouTube) or you could get this one:

It works well, stores easily and some of your $$$ goes to women in Africa.

I've heard good things about solar ovens but have never seen or used one. What are they made out of that makes them so expensive?

23 pounds of highly processed materials. The Sun Oven will last a long time, with care. But will you use it enough (really!) to make it pay for itself? Only you can answer that.

Personally, I would start with one of the versions that JT recommends. The purchased one costs $50, is foil laminated to cardboard, and it folds flat. Or make one out of cardboard and foil yourself, and see if you think it would be useful. If it's too fiddly or too slow or your sun keeps disappearing, you won't use it.
