As some of you may know, I've been looking to get a cargo van for summer travels in which I will build in a simple bed, storage cabinets and put my bicycle in the inside at the very rear.

I live in Canada and have been feeling like I'd want to spend $10000 dollars as it's only going to be used a couple months a year. I might even sell it after doing a couple of trips over the next two years.

I've looked around at about six so far and have learned that cargo vans seem to be quite beat up and I haven't found anything that I'd want to make an offer on until...

I went to a dealer (I normally look private only) they have a 2011 e150 4.6L V8 with cruise, side and rear windows and pretty clean. The tires are pretty much end of life and will need replacing, but all else seems good aside from a few scrape and little dents. They want $16750 all in price.

The van is everything I want, pretty much exactly, but the price is a lot more than I felt I'd want to spend - HOWEVER I CAN afford it, I just didn't see spending that much on this.

So, I don't usually offer anything without thinking about it, but after looking at it on the spot I offered $12500 all in. We went back and forth and in the end he said $15750 and he'd throw in 2 tires for the rear.

He called me later that afternoon to see what I was thinking and I offered $13500 all in, but he wasn't budging.

So it's now two days later and I called him and offered $14500 all in without the tires and he's still sticking at his $1000 off of sticker price of $15750 all in with the 2 tires.

For what it's worth, I looked at VMR which is the used value guide up in Canada, and it suggests a wholesale of $14800 and retail of $17400... not sure how accurate that is in reality and as noted it does need new tires all around.

For me it's mostly a mental block of spending so much cash on this and only getting $1000 off of sticker price! Maybe I just need to see a psychologist to help me work this out! Ha!

Anyhow, what do you all think about this deal?

I'm not sure if the prices you're quoting are in Canadian dollars or US? What's the mileage?

All prices I've mentioned are Canadian.
Mileage is 60,000 KM

Sounds like a pretty good deal... that's less than 40k miles for about $11k USD...and 2 new tires. Kelly Blue Book values it at $16k USD in "fair" condition.

All in all it sounds like a very good deal, one that you should be able to get your money back out of for the most part if sold in next 2 years.
