You can have made 4 X 4 on vans, Cost is from $ 10,000 to 20K.

I converted my shorty Dodge van to 4x4 for under 2K. "Some assembly and welding required".

I am looking to buy a van that has the least amount of windows in back and is very
short. I am going to be sleeping in it at work it has to fit in a regular parking spot
(per employer's parking regs) 3 nights a week. any feedback would be appreciated

In either a Dodge, Ford or Chevy shorty that is totally possible. I lived in my shorty Dodge for the first two years of van dwelling before I upgraded to extended RV. All three makes made short vans at one time or another.

I wouldn't be afraid of the V/straight-6 engines from any make of American van. They tend to outlast the v8's by many miles. Ford 300 and Dodge slant 6 especially. They aren't as powerful, but I'll take longevity over power any day.

thanks got smart but limiting my search to west coast Oregon/northern cal possibly washinton state

old thread : ) but still usable info.
As others have stated GMC/Chevy with the 138" WB Regular Body... we've enjoyed ours and it is primarily my wife's daily driver, though we do go out on week long adventures from spring thaw to fall freez (it is converted). Also, since you are in the PNW (we are on the Oregon Coast)... if you happen to stumble upon a good deal on a GMC/Chevy 1500 AWD they do great in our soggy paradise.

here it is as she parked it for a day at the "Office" ... and even though we have custom bumpers that add ~2ft extra to length it still fits in a "regular" parking space.
