The sun can be brutal here in Southern Nevada. I modified the lumber rack to fit the flatbed that I made, then put plywood on the front of it to keep the cab in the shade. I needed more than one sheet to fill the gap, so I figured I might as well make it as wide as the flatbed, (7'). My dog and I both like it.

When my truck was still a pickup, I had a lumber rack and filled the front with plywood as well. My Avitar shows the original. I also made fold up sides and back so I could flip them up and have storage for camping.
