I'm considering gong to RTR this year and a regular RTR attendee told me I should look into the different camps.... a group to possibly camp with. Is there a page or thread about RTR camps and those welcoming newbies? Are spots assigned at the gate to solo attendees?

No, the RTR is very informal. Basically, you just find a spot anywhere on the BLM land near where everyone is gathering. There are a few areas that are assigned to groups such as an area close to the main firepit for people with disabilities and an area farther away for people who want to play music or run generators.

Some people who have formed friendship either at previous gatherings or online may plan to camp together.

You should be welcomed anywhere you chose to camp. The RTR attendees are a very opened and inclusive group of people. Many will be just as new as you so don't be shy about approaching people and introducing yourself.

no gate, no assigned spots, but like rvwandering said certain areas are reserved for certain groups like the disabled camp, art camp, noise makers camp, etc. no one is assigned to any area you can camp anywhere you want but we do ask that the disabled camp is only for the disabled other than that camp wherever you want. you can even camp by us if you can stand us, LOL. highdesertranger

[I am disabled but I'm not in a wheelchair or use a walker....some days I can even go without a cane, though cold months are a lot harder on my back and hip. What do I need to prove my disability? I do have a plaque card.

I like the idea of art camp; my art is mostly Halloween, Gothic and unsual but, artistic. Is there a plae for camps like Art Camp so I can introduce myself and see if it's a good fit or to request to camp with them? Or should a newbie just go rouge the frist year?

no need to prove anything. we will take you at your word. about the art camp start a thread and ask questions. no need to request if you can camp with them we are not that formal. highdesertranger

ya just drive on in, when you see some folks that look like "your kinda people" stop and say high, ask "is this spot taken" most likely you will have just made some new friends.

see you at the RTR

:D I can get along with most anybody. I like lots of things and appreciate many "groups". Is there an integrated area? Or should I stick with the misfits and those that "ain't quite right"?

If you don't find the art camp right away, the location will probably be announced during the morning announcements -- more than once. There was a sign last year, so there will probably be one again. Ask around and people will point you to it. Then move your rig to a spot that's convenient for you.
