I'll be picking up my trailer in Florida and then heading to Carson Valley, NV to my sister's where I will spend a few weeks getting my new home all set up.  This will happen the last week of April if all goes as planned.

I'm trying to decide my route.  I think I want to do a bare minimum set up of the trailer so that I can avoid hotel rooms (i.e. bed, table for cooking).  But I'm trying to figure out the best route.  I prefer to boondock but I know I'll have trouble finding spots in the south so I'm thinking I'll head north through Atlanta then stay northwest crossing into the lower half of Wyoming and northern Utah and Nevada.  I'll use a combo of boondocking and Passport America.

If you have recommendations for the following states, please let me know:

Georgia
Tennessee
Missouri
Nebraska
Wyoming
Utah
Nevada

Have you tried planning your route with the help of the 'trip planner' available on Freecampsites.net.

I love it, I can choose to avoid toll roads and interstates ( or not), then choose how far off the route it plans for me that I'll go to find free camping. Then I can drag the route if there's something I want to see that is off-route.

I always make note of at least 2 places to stop for the night, in case one either isn't suitable or I want to keep on driving.

I use paper maps so I can mark them up. In addition to whatever is on freecampsites site I also make note of W/Ms that allow overnights (Allstays.com), free casino camping (casinocamper.com) and carry the Flying J RV location guide and Cracker Barrels location map.

Needless to say, I'm never short of places to stay when I'm going cross country.

You may also want to check weather conditions (in general) along the route. Depending on how long you take to get there those more northern states may still be a tad cold if you're hurrying across the continent.

I have Allstays and I just tried the Trip Planner on freecampsites.net. I've done the I-10/I-20 route too many times and would rather go north. But I'll keep my eye on the weather and plan accordingly. I'll have to drill down into the trip planner and start taking notes. Very good idea to make a list of a couple possibilities plus the Flying J, Cabelas, WalMart and other last resort places to stay. I'm not in a hurry but I also don't plan on staying anywhere more than 1 night. I'm eager to get to NV and get my build done so I can really adventure.

in Nevada it's easy. just get off the pavement a little ways and you are set. I do it all the time. highdesertranger
