That is sad but there are still some lesser known ones continuing on so all is not lost.
You can still run away and join the circus!
There is one that goes to a theme park I worked at and I actually asked about a job and they said sure..........................walking behind the elephants with a shovel and bucket :>(

I knew a kid who "ran away to join the circus".  He was a musician who was in a local band I sometimes roadied for.  He joined the circus band, or orchestra, whatever it's called and married a circus gal.

Sadly, the end of an era. Americans have become jaded with immediate gratification of entertainment. The circus just isn't the draw it once was, when it came to town, and everyone turned out for it.
I miss the smells of the animals and the fresh sawdust. The excitement, the various animals. They used to set up at the local Fairgrounds, close to home.
In later years, they set up in the Civic Center uptown. No big top, few animals, little classic circus smell. Just isn't the same.
Just as Disney and other Theme Parks killed off the old Florida highway attractions, so other things have killed the circus. It's a sad day.

I'm sorry to learn that Ringling Bros is closing down. When my children were born, at that time (my youngest is now 20) I got a lifetime ticket for them each to go. It was a little promotion they were doing in their heyday. My two oldest have been and used their free ticket but my youngest hasn't done so yet. I told her to go on and use it before it's too late.

I'm sorry that it's closing down because I love all the excitement of it all.

I have an old film photo of the Ringling Bros train cars that I shot using B&W film. If there is any interest in seeing it I will try to find it and post here.

Found it. This was of course behind the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Vegas. I took this close to ten years ago while out playing with a film camera.
This will probably be the last we see of it. :(

This brings me back to the days when I was a kid

3 channels on TV, but only when the weather was right. It only went on on Sunday evening.  Wild Kingdom, (Better step lively Jim!)  then The Wonderful World of Disney. Toby Tiler.  Dumbo!  No cell phones or internet.  Everyone owned a muscle car, but called it transportation. Gas was under a quarter, and that was with real full service.  (Check your tires today?)

The fascination of the elephants, tigers and monkeys.  Fresh hot peanuts~~~ A different show in every ring.  Reality was different then.
