RENT van: Tipps?

Hi everyone,
I will tour California, USA, in May/June and I would like to rent a van or car in which I can sleep (1 person).

Does anyone have an idea where I can rent such a vehicle for a reasonable price?

Usual campervan rentals seem very expensive.

Grateful for any tipps.

Rent a passenger van and a storage space, remove all the seats and do a quick & dirty removable buildout.

Tons of YTs by tourists doing exactly that.

Try to find unlimited miles, worth paying more per day for that. And take the full insurance if your CC doesn't cover that.
