I did a search for this topic and nothing came up...

I would like to put in a remote toggle switch for my inverter which is at the back of the van under the bed.  I put an ice maker in the van for Jeanne and would like for her to be able to turn the inverter on long enough to make ice then turn it back off without having to remember to go outside and turn it off. An easy enough chore for most, but, Jeanne has developed some memory issues and I try to make things as easy for her as possible.  I know it's not like a switch for a water pump, but, is it doable? If not, we'll put a sign on the ice maker to remind her and see how that works. There would still have to be a sign to flip the toggle off.... 6 of one - half dozen of another. Mayhaps I'm trying to hard.

I looked at moving the inverter to the closet wall , but, there is no room.

what you need to do is take the cover off the inverter, disconnect the switch and run the wires to a new switch where you need it. a pilot light next to the switch is a good idea. highdesertranger

Thank you highdesertranger... I knew you would have a solution. For some reason I was thinking I would have to put a solenoid in the 4 gauge cable from the battery to the inverter and I wasn't looking forward to that idea.

My inverter came with a switch so all I did was install it where I wanted it (in the electrical cabinet), and installed a switich in the living area that interrupts the power cord. The switch on the inverter stays in the on position all the time. No need for any fancy wiring or taking any covers off.

I installed a lighted switch so that I could see if I forgot to turn the inverter off after using it.

I also installed a couple of 120 outlets in the living area that are wired to the plugs on the inverter.

I simply turn on the inverter and plug what I want to run in to the outlet(s)

I've bought three Kriëger inverters. They all have remote switches connected by old fashioned telephone wire.

I have a Harbor Freight 400/800.  I opened the case and gently soldered a pair of wires to the back of the switch.

The fridge thermostat has control if the switch is off.  If I want to use it for my shaver I push the button to turn it on.
