1993 model G10 bought at auction on GovDeals.com   Went to New Braunfels, TX from Dallas area to get it.  Something to fill in the gap until I decide on something else.  Runs good, body is straight and paint is pretty decent.  Got a bit of rust in a couple places I am going to get started on.  Needed a ton of elbow grease to get rid of the grime. Needs some tinkering on a few issues as always on one this age.

Shelves and racks off and out

Gutter looks to have a leak. Only spot though.

Pulled the mat from the cargo area and saw this mess.  Shop workers washing it out with water hose? Insulation could never dry if so.  Have to pull the seats to improve that situation.  Going to slow the rest of it down.

Wonder why the floors in cargo areas on so many vans are rusted like that?

"Wonder why the floors in cargo areas on so many vans are rusted like that? " because the factory jute insulation holds moisture and doesn't readily dry out. this is why I always recommend against insulation that absorbs moisture. highdesertranger

Mine is gone now. No telling how long it has been wet. I figure it started with a water hose.
hdr...have you used the Ensolite for sound and insulation?

I didn't realise Chevy still had the SWB model that late, given Ford eliminated their shorty in the mid eighties.
My late Father used to flush his 1986 E150 out from front to rear by waterhose like that. Has a rubber mat over plywood underlayment. Rust...? Oh yeah! One reason this van is now a parts donor for my '88.
I have been considering stripping the floor of my '88 and applying bedliner, after repairing any rust issues it has.

yes I use Ensolite. I pulled the jute out and put Ensolite under my carpet in the cab. I also replaced the jute on the inside of the firewall with Ensolite. I like to use it anywhere you have contours because it's quite flexible. it's a great insulator and good for sound deadening. it is also 100% waterproof. highdesertranger

Lee, I think this may be one of a few on the road. Not a van I am used to seeing anyway. Are you thinking of roll on bed liner?

hdr...do you buy a pad or something in a roll? There is a pre formed carpet for this one with mass backing but I don't really know how that would be without something else under it.

you have to make the Ensolite pads yourself. there are many places to purchase Ensolite. some of the auto restore places sell it some self adhesive, most expensive. on the floor I would not glue it down. I buy mine from upholstery supply places medium priced. if you can find them the cheapest place to get Ensolite is from an Army/Navy surplus store. the older military sleeping pads are Ensolite, but this source is drying up.

the upholstery stores sell it from 1/8 inch to about 3/4 inch. I like the 3/8-1/2 because it forms so easily then if I want it thicker I will add another layer.

I don't like the carpet with the jute attached to it. if it gets wet it is almost impossible to dry out. you have to remove it and hang it in the sun, sometimes for several days. highdesertranger

Yeah I want to stay away from the jute backing myself. I'll check sources in next couple of days and try to have it here by the time I get through with floor repairs.

Would make a good, full restoration project. Or usable as is. I lean more to "as is" repairs for now.
