Can this type of fuse holder be mounted by drilling thru the 'dot' in the middle and securing with a bolt or screw?

It will be connected to my alternator and will experience high temps in the engine compartment. So I want a solid mechanical connection that won't deteriorate.

Your fuse holder is plastic too and will be subjected to the same environment as the tie wraps. I would just get some heavy duty black tie wraps and tie to the alternator wire or a wire bundle. Easy to get to if you need to change the fuse.

HDR may have a better fuse holder to use underhood. That looks like pretty small wire to charge a house battery.

It's #8. I already had 20' of that size wire so I'm making do.

Ah, compared to the fuse holder it looked like 12 gauge. Can't always tell by a picture. You will probably have quite a bit of voltage drop if running any distance. If you have enough wire, doubling or tripling the run would help.

That looks like the 50 amp version....which is bigger than the smaller, 30 amp inline fuse holders. And I have not tried to drill a hole in one so I dont know if there will be damage to the connections inside or not.

Thanks for the replies. To get this on I'll need to remove the alternator and that's a pain on this one. The front bearing is sqeaking a bit so I think I'll wait until it needs to be pulled for a warranty claim.
