Hi Cedric,

I don't run very much currently, a small 12v fan on some days, and then my laptop (9hrs/day) and my phone. That's it so far. This is why it charges so quickly. Plus my laptop is only on M-F during work hours (which also happen to be daylight hours, YAY)

You really need to 'size' your power to your needs. 1 way to do that is to list all the things you want to do, how long you want to do them (every day) and then add all that up, so you know how much electricity you need in a day.

I did mine in a spreadsheet, showing each item, the watts, amps and volts for everything I wanted to run (generally the back of the device or plug has this information), and approx. how long I plan on running them each day. I add all that up, and that's how much power I want for 1 day.

Then you figure out how to make that much electricity every day, and you probably want batteries that will store a few days worth of power, not just the 1 day. Right now I can go about 2 or 3 work days on my 100 amp hour battery before getting to 50%, without any solar. I have a 200 watt solar panel (I spent all my budgeted money on the panel, as it's the biggest hardest thing to replace.)

I hope to eventually increase my battery bank, so it's not just 100ah, but that will probably not happen until this battery dies.

It's sort of like water, you figure out, ok I use about 1 gallon a day, so if I want to be away from a water source for a week, then I need about 10 gallons of water (1 for each day of the week plus a little extra to be safe). Running out of water is a giant bummer.

Electricity demand is totally different per person, I don't have a TV, DVD, a kindle or a 12v light, so my math won't be the same as yours. Plus, I run my laptop 9hrs a day (I work full time off of it) M-F, so that's clearly my large power drain (and still it's not all THAT large, since I don't use an AC inverter, I plug in 12V directly, and that helps a lot).

Anyways, hope this helps, and there are forum topics all about solar panels directly, and Bob wrote some on the main cheapgreenrvliving page, all worth looking at!
