Paul is a great craftsman. I really like his woodworking, most of it.
His surfboards look nice, very good woodworking, However I am not impressed with the actual shapes of his surfboards.
The outlines are a bit wonky, the rocker ( bottom curve) does not flow smoothly, the foil( thickness flow) is uneven. In general they look like dogs to surf. More of a wall hanger. I am also not sure the internal structure will hold up to long term use and abuse.
I have not made a hollow wood surfboard in several years, but I ride one that I made almost every day. The internal design structure I use is completely different than he uses, and I am not willing to post pictures of it online.
I'd love to make money doing van conversions but I don't want to work for others doing so, and it would destroy the simplicity I have now, to set up something to be able to do so.
There is no money in making surfboards, unfortunately. For me it is a labor of love. I might be building another one soon. My woodworking and fiberglass skills have only improved since I built my last one, and I am feeling that creative bug.
It is about a hundred hours of labor total, spread out over 3 weeks, minimum.
