Does anyone have experience bringing a small bird on the road with you? I would like to be able to keep my parakeet with me. She did fine on one trip over Christmas, 2 1/2 hours each way, in a slightly smaller cage than she has at home. That was a test run!

research Tioga George. Sadly he passed but he traveled with a small bird all the time. That bird put many miles under his wing LOL Tons of info about his bird and what he did to take care of it. Just google and read up. very interesting guy. his bird was very prominent in his life on the road.

Have you spoken to your vet and taken her on a longer trip?

We took our parrot for a few trips, She did fine. My ears not so much... She makes a great alarm and by the end of the trip she had my ears ringing. I think if you can find a way to insure that your little birdy stays warm/cool enough and air is good around it, the little guy would be fine. you may want to be careful of the water you give her. Just like any other critter. My birdy just sat up in the front seat so she could see out. She loved it. Scared the crap out of folks at rest areas. She didn't like people getting to close to our car.

There was a guy that traveled the country with his flock of big parrots. He had an old school bus and did shows at events for the preservation of the rain forest or something. He had 10 or so birds that traveled with him He said he lived in the bus at least 6 months of the year. I haven't seen him around the last few years. His birds would fly around town where ever he was and they always came back to the bus at night or when ever he signaled or what ever. He had a 'room' set up in the bus just for his birds. His wife drove, he trained the birds in transit he said 'cause his wife drove better then him' he said.
