Does anyone have any input on these? They look to be lightweight, smaller and reasonably priced. The new ones are built with aluminum frames. They kind of remind me of the Capri truck campers. Also, what do people usually do with the truck tailgate ---- leave it on or store it?

http://www.panthercampers.com/

Take the tailgate off and store it.

The TC looks nice and well thought out, though I haven't heard of them before. Capri Campers is close to me and if I were doing the TC thing again I would buy one. Minimalist but sturdy and functional.

They are nice, and make it easy to put it on a live. Too fancy for me. But, I may change my mind in the future. My profession is a diesel tech, therefore I need the bed to not only sleep in, but work out of. My other problem is that two years ago I paid less than twice for my house than what some of those cost.

For the industry I would say these are VERY reasonably priced...considering most new campers are going to be starting around 20K, the pop ups however will be less. FWC base models will slide in for less, around 12K, you can get into a pop up shell for 7-8 K. So 10,000 for a well equipped, aluminum framed and seemingly well built/appointed camper....deal.

Capri campers are the shizzy though, especially since you can get a shell and modify it yourself, a rare thing in the industry. They make their money on all the "convienences" most 'mericans require to feel like human beings out in the "wild". Which really doesn't exist anymore.
