Been using one of those eisel/paintbox combo devices and toying with bringing one to the RTR, here is a Marin headland painting i did in the early 90's

OH! You are good! That's beautiful, thanks for posting it. Which set do you use?
Mine is cobbled together--a camera tripod, home made easel and easel butler, and a small "lunch box" for my paints.
When I have enough knowledge that I can understand and apply what an instructor is saying, I want to take lessons from Walter Porter, a local southern AZ artist (http://walterporter.com/works)
If I make it to the RTR, I will have my stuff along. Please, do bring yours!

Ella1, have you tried Water Miscible Oils? I've used Acrylics in the past, but I worry about them on the road as they don't respond well to freezing temps. I use the Golden Paints line and I've been very happy with them. Best part is no need for Turps or other solvents as they clean up with soap and water!

No, I have so much money in the regular oil paints that that's (probably) not going to happen until my lifetime supply of OP's is used up :) . Due to chemical reactivity, I do not use solvents at all, just walnut oil and soap and water. I thought about giving them a try, but decided against it. I'm glad they are working for you. Apparently they are supposed to work with the regular oils, but I know people who have had problems with that.
I also have a bunch of WN oil bars that I will soon dig out. They are too soft in hot temps for me.
I DO want to try the Interactive Acrylics, and ordered a tube and an "unlocker" but they haven't arrived yet.

Diane, your work is lovely. Thanks for posting it.
I use both knife and brush. The knife allows much easier cleanup!

I did, and didn't find anything that seemed to fit. 'Splain, please!

Well there is this old abandoned whore house and plenty rock formations and dare i say some of that ol loveable YELLOW STUFF. MIXED IN WITH THOSE DAMNED PETROGLYPHS all the tourists seem to think are real... Other than that please stay away

Lets git back to painting,,,,, It's super easy. And will give assistance to those that have stared at Van Gogh and assorted "known artists" All dead now I might add. to make it a reality

yes instead of further derailing this thread I will start one on Dyer. highdesertranger

My congratulations to all of the talented people on here.Unfortunately,my major talents are lyin and stinkin.

To anyone headed to Ajo...on the south side of town, at the end of the tailings pile, is Darby Wells Rd. It's on the right. It is amazingly beautiful and rivals the natl monument. Ajo is a great town with a homey vibe. The IGA there has EVERYTHING a traveller could need plus wi-fi.
Enjoy!

Thanks, that's good to have an idea of pretty places to paint, esp when going on my own.
I will be bringing oils and watercolors. I plan to use both 5x7 and 8x10's, canvasboards, canvas paper,
and maybe watercolor paper even for
Wagoneer, I am just beginning on this journey.
I hope to get to see you and other plein air painters in action, I want to learn!
I hope it's not too cold for me.

OOPS! "and maybe watercolor paper even for" ....oil painting!

You can paint on most anything the turps are the only problem with absorbing material and the wieght of the paint limit . Have fun

I still don't know if I will get to the Ajo paint-out. It depends on several things, including environmental conditions.
I just bought a small 200 watt heater (and reflectix) for the trip, and have several canvas boards toned and ready.
I made a wet canvas holder for 12x'spreparing for both Ajo and the RTR, but am no longer expecting to get to the RTR.
Enjoy!
