Opinions plz on Ikea ottoman sleeper.
Please tell me what you think of the practicality of this sleeper - without taking into consideration the price tag
I am wondering how feasible it would be in a cargo van as a bed.
It is very comfortable.

Probably wont make a very comfy chair when in ottoman mode but it is pretty space efficient, all in one, and you can always upgrade the foam later.
A lot depends on how you're planning your layout and if this works best for your setup.
It would be nice if there was some storage but no biggie. Don't forget to consider height to van interior height for when you're just sitting on it.
Only thing I'd worry about is if your hip/butt lines up with the space in between foam pads it will grow uncomfortable quickly.

Hmmm. The van that I am considering is 111x66 and 54 height.
So, there would be about 3 feet height if I were sitting on it in an ottoman position.

I'd guess that will work but you should sit up against a wall and figure your seated height.
Then factor in floor/ceiling adjustments you might make (insulation etc).
After that, decide if you'll be bumping your head or not, haha.

I actually had consider that ottoman sleeper for my van but the price tag was just too much. I tried it out at IKEA and it was not bad. Then I almost got the SOLSTA (couch/sleeper) but my wheel hump distance was 51" and SOLSTA was 53" and I didn't want to make modification to the couch to make it fit (one you make mods you can't return it). I ended up with a try-fold mattress from Amazon and it worked well so far. The allure of the SOLSTA for me was it gave me two option a "couch" and a bed. Sometime I can just sit and read a book or surf the net in comfort and not lay down all the time. My current Tri-Fold is ok when folded up, but its almost like laying down like a bean bag. I do pop in to IKEA from time to time and especially look in the 50% off (all sales final) section. There are some great deals there. If I see a pretty new SOLSTA for 50% off, I'll probably get it and make the modification to fit between my wheel humps.

I'd be worried that ottoman would be very uncomfortable to sleep on. Read the reviews of the SOLSTA and you'll find that 1/3 of the "mattress" is fabric covered plywood, no cushion, and rated overall as a poor sleeping experience. I can't see how the ottoman would be comfortable for someone over 30...

The Vallentuna looks good but is expensive and not space efficient (no storage underneath).

I was considering that ... it is just that I already own it - and am trying to decide if it is a keep or a toss.
It is very cozy ... Maybe I will put it in the van (when I get the van) and see where to go from there.

If I already owned it, I would give it a shot for sure. I hope it can work for you. They look nice.

Idea...if you wanted storage underneath, you could leave it open and place it on a platform at a correct height to allow some storage underneath.

If it takes up only one-third the space of a twin bed, yes, IT IS space efficient... it is storing two-thirds of itself. If you curl up into a fetal position, you've still got your original mass, but it's condensed into a closer bundle, so someone else can use the surrounding space.

The only thing that beats that is something that is inflatable, and you remove the air.

This may help you: In my first van I used an Ikea Beddinge futon I cut in half at the fold. It was perfect 32" wide and 74" long. I slept like a baby on that for the first year and a half.
