I lucked out completely! I was in Habitat for Humanitys' ReStore and they had 2 cartons of industrial grade vinyl laminate without a price tag on it. Gave it to me for $15.00 a box.... :D

Try a real flooring store, they may have a 'scrap' or end cut in the size you need at a bargain price.

We have a Habitat for Humanity ReStore too. I'll have to check them out - I forgot about that. We also have a Warehouse Surplus, though they're not always the cheapest even though it looks as if they would be.

I found what I felt were reasonably priced sheets (rolled) of linoleum at a Rural King. I"m not sure if those were a special purchase or it they carry them all of the time.

Do you plan to go far off the beaten path? I've seen a lot of folks on the forum mention using the plank flooring, but I always think of how much my van shakes going down washboard dirt and gravel roads. Maybe the laminates handle that well, but I have wondered.

No, I wouldn't go too far away from civilization, or where I might get stuck. But there are pot-holed roads everywhere, so I'm not so keen on the floor popping apart. That's why I began thinking a solid piece might be best...plus linoleum seemed easy to install since I saw my uncle doing it years ago. It also seems like the lightest option.

if you do choose to use linoleum flooring, here's a great way to make a pattern of your floor...without skrewing up your new flooring material.

find a big roll of paper. (try your local newspaper and see if they sell used end rolls...usually a buck or two)
another thing would be to use a bunch of paper bags, cut and flattened, and all taped together.

what you wanna do is to lay the paper all over the floor of your van. Don't skip anything! Go under all cupboard overhangs, around the table posts...everything! Tape the paper so it all stays together in one big piece. Be sure to mark it "This Side UP"!!!
This is now the perfect pattern for your new flooring.

lay this paper pattern UPSIDE DOWN on the BOTTOM of your linoleum. Take a Sharpie, and trace around the pattern. Be sure to mark all holes and any weird shapes. You can now cut around this outline. (I'd suggest leaving about an inch OUTSIDE the lines for fine tuning.)

Once that's done, you simply lay the linoleum flooring right side up inside your van, and trim to fit.

Hope this helps.

btw...I too was going to suggest looking at Habitat for Humanity Resale Store too.

one nice thing about a linoleum or a laminate floor, is you stick a couple of throw rugs on 'em, and when it's clean-up time, you simply take the rugs outside for a good shake, and sweep up the floor....DONE!! :D
