There showing a piece on van dwellers --

There in a city that has "Safe Parking Areas" in Santa Barbera, CA--

If I can find a link I'll post it up --

If this is in the wrong place -----

I wonder if they have preferred parking for people like me -- near a beach or pool

You can have the beach or pool and I will take the grave yard.... deal? LOL

There's a couple of business that participate in this. They know their parking lots are empty at night so they volunteer them for this project. From what I recall they had done it initially to give women a safe place to park but the program has taken off over the years. If I recall right it's a show up after 6-7pm and leave before 5-6am kind of deal. Well, at least it was when they started it.

The CNN talking head said something like -- there's a waiting list -- to me that means local goober-mint is sticking their beak in --- ( just guessing here ) -- must have some kind of job - or public assistance - former area resident - mailing address - van / car to have insurance / proper tags - no crapping in the weeds

After reading the articles it sure sounds like there is a lot of bureaucracy involved...
I used to live in Ventura (a little ways south of SB) and exhibit NO surprise

After reading these stories I came to one conclusion. It appears these programs are attempting to help people who live in their vehicles find "permanent" housing, whatever that means. Is there such a thing as "permanent" housing? If this is the case they are operating under a false premise. What if the person(s) living in their vehicle are doing so intentionally? What if the person(s) have no desire to live in a "permanent" structure again? These stories assume that we don't want live in our vehicles.

After reading these three stories I did an internet search for more of these type stories. I discovered quite a few stories on the "net." They tend to have the same bias towards the "mobile homeless" as well. They want to help them find "permanent" homes. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I would love to find a story where the writer actually interviewed a van dweller who was perfectly content living in his/her vehicle. Where is it written that any of us living in our vehicles actually want a "home" with four solid walls again? Granted there will always be some van dwellers who still desire a "normal" building as a home. As many of us here know that is not always the case.

Let's give credit where credit is due. For the people who would rather not live in their vehicles, please, help them out. If we have no desire to have a "permanent" home again, please provide us with a safe place to park our vehicles.

The first question these social-workers in these programs should be asking us is the following. Are you living in your vehicles by choice? If the answer is "yes", then please go help someone else who isn't in their vehicle by choice. Many of us are already living in our chosen homes. End of story!

I'd like to thank you for reading my "mini-rant" on the social programs to help the "mobile homeless." Please go back to whatever you were doing beforehand! lol
