Hello,

We recently purchased our first MH and was older so we did not break the bank nor did we have the funds for a brand new one ... anyhoo This is our first experience of driving a MH and we noticed that it does seem to have quite a bit of sway.  Not dolphin up and down but like I think its called wag???  My hubby was saying it swayed a lot so when I first drove it I noticed it also when I got up to between 35-40mph it was like the tires left the ground and we were floating.   very scary so I pulled over and Hubby drove again.  I did promise him I would learn how to drive it if we got a MH so I do want to keep my promise.   Everyone I have talked to says every MH has some sway so maybe its just something we have to get used to but it sure seems scary to us certainly will be no one hand driving for either of us the way it is now.  We would be white knuckling it everytime we went anywhere.    :s

I have attached a PDF of our chassis - is there any parts that maybe we should look to replace to possibly tweak down some of the sway?

We did purchase all 6 new tires and brake have been inspected and are good.

Thanks so much and any input would be appreciated.

The P30 chassis has been around for quite sometime. There were several aftermarket systems developed for them. My 1983 28' Barth motor home has a fancy self-centering system that is air over hydrolic that once set by the driver keeps the motorhome going straight even in the event of a flat tire or in crosswinds. Mine has air bag suspension which is adjustable as well. Take a look at everything suspension as even sitting a 20 year vehicle will deteriate especially rubber bushings and such. Mine was a pleasure to drive as when I bought it it had all been checked and repaired at a price. HWY 95 switchbacks taken at way too fast a speed convinced me it was well worth it.

Thanks bullfrog.

Lucky you with the self-centering system. We do have front airbags but not rear. I guess we can start with replacing the front airbags and the rear shocks and see what that does according to the spec sheet it does state front and rear stabilizers but when we looked under the rig we didn't notice anything like sway bars or stabilizers that looked like that but then we did not look really good either just a few minute browse nor are we even sure what they would look like even if we did see them.

unless someone removed them you should have front and rear sway bars, check the bushings. for sure replace the front air bags, I would also do shocks all the way around. I would do heavy duty shocks, KYB or Bilstein would be my choice. do those things and see how it rides. highdesertranger
