Hey hey! Names Scotty, I'm 35, Air Force vet and online college student; just started the van life a couple of months ago, although I've been "Practicing" for the last couple of years. It's been a rough and rocky ride to say the least, but I can say that being a full-time nomad is where it's at. I'm very fortunate to have family and friends to park at from time to time, but I'm slowly developing my dispersed camping skills. Not too bad so far! Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of cheaprvliving! ^_^

Welcome Scotty to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started. Mooch docking works too!

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi bud, I am new and expect to be in the same position within the next year or two. Just curious as to how rocky it is/was or what the largest struggle was for you and how what you learned from it over the last few months. Cheers and welcome.

Welcome to the forums, Scotty. Thank you for your service. Good luck with the schooling/nomad paths. What kind of a vehicle are you in? What are you studying?

Thx a mil for the welcome ya’ll!

gslanm: It has definitely been a very rocky start for me. I’ve been part timing it from July 2018 to March 2020. Did stealth in San Francisco for a couple of week and actually got the dreaded knock from the police. It was my own fault and I learned a hard lesson that day, “stealth is not for me!” ?? But yah, it’s the fear of danger part that I’ve had to overcome. It’s very hard, and I still struggle with it... but you only live once! ?

Turtlelady : Thx 4 the welcome as well! I drive a 2013 Ford E150 Cargo. No build build. I love it so much! Studying for my Bachelors in History. Not sure if I’ll go for my masters, but with the pandemic going on right now, it’s the only logical means of $$$ for me. And I get an education to boot. ??
