please with the abbreviations.  what does all that mean in terms I can understand.  please define all abbreviations that are not listed in the rules.

SSD is the drive where your files are stored when you use the computer (even after shutting down the computer), your files are read from the drive and written to it. A SSD is much faster than a hard disk drive (HDD), which is what is usually installed in cheaper/older computers. The faster the drive, the faster the files can be read and written to and from it.

RAM is used when you're using your computer to temporarily store information (files and other stuff). It is MUCH faster than a SSD but much smaller so when your RAM fills up your computer starts using the SSD to store the information and it causes the computer to slow down. The more RAM you have the more information you can store in it (for example open more browser tabs) without your computer slowing down.

Hope this clarifies things.

Another great thing about iPads (and high end Android tablets) is that they are very power efficient. An iPad gets about 10 hours of real battery life on 40 watt hours of battery, which means that the average power usage is about 4 watts. That's great if you are living with a small solar system.

I use an iPad Pro with an HDMI connection and a bluetooth keyboard quite a bit. I still use the touch screen rather than a mouse though, because the mouse support on iPads isn't great. I use a logitech keyboard that has a tablet slot right behind the keys, and a monitor above that to provide a larger screen.

(Regarding abbreviations, I'm not sure "Solid State Drive" and "Random Access Memory" are more helpful to beginners than "SSD" and "RAM" are. Also, HDMI stands for "High-Definition Multimedia Interface". Which probably isn't very helpful either.)

How about:

SSD = a large capacity data storage device without any moving parts.  It uses less energy than a hard disk drive (no motors to run), it is faster (because it doesn't rely on a mechanical arm to find the data), and is more resistant to physical abuse (higher shock and vibration tolerance because it has no moving parts).

RAM = the actual memory that your computer processor and video uses.  More is better.  Higher speed (and more expensive) than your bulk storage device (SSD, hard drive, external hard drive, etc.)

HDMI = high definition video connection between your computer and an external monitor.  I connect my MacBook to a flat 32" TV screen using an HDMI cable.

well thank you, all of you.

what's ROI?

you can use the abbreviations just define them once in the thread like, SSD(Solid State Drive) then you are good to go.

RAM is "random access memory". As if that could make it any more accessible.

An analogy would be that you have a limited physical workspace on which to place both tools and materials.

To work with more tools and/or materials, you would need to swap some tools/materials off of the workspace to make room. This swapping takes time and having another off table workspace to hold the tools/materials.

The larger the workspace, more work can be done without the overhead of swapping.

16GB RAM is a very large workspace and is not expensive to purchase, especially when compared to the purchase of a new device. 16GB of RAM is my basic requirement on both my tower and laptop.

Ipads are NOT computers, they are mostly a consumption device. A real laptop would have no dongles or other things to do just to plug in a mouse or keyboard or sound card....etc. Also IPAD screens are smaller than most laptop screens. I'd go for a used one like I did from ebay. I got an asus ROG from there for a really good price and I upgraded the ram to 32GB and it has enough power to do everything including playing PC games.
