Hi all, My name is Tammy and i'm in N.C. I need advise on how many miles is considered high on a mini van and cargo vans. I'm running across what I consider high miles ( over one hundred thousand ). However, people I talked to said its normal for a van to have high miles and be reliable.  Searching for the right van has become a learning experience. If I've posted in the wrong place please let me know.
Hopefully I will be on the road within a year.

yea, anything over that 100K mark is considered high mileage but that doesn't mean it is the end of the life of that vehicle. Research the known vehicle on how it handles its' mileage and lifetime use. Van ABC could be a very high mileage great performer while Van XYZ could be one that is not recommended to go high mileage and will be a repair nightmare. So do the research on that van in question also.

Then there is what are you going to put on a high mile van?
2K a year in travel? 3K a year.....8,0000 miles in travel a year? So what are you going to add and how fast are ya going to add those miles onto that older van? Just another thought to think of also.

Also you have to think what van suits you for daily living? Is crouching more ok in lower roof? Or is a high top roof where you can stand needed for your comfort?

So start thinking what is important to you for your use, then start to research the vans out there also and look for what van suits you personally and how ya want to roll out there.

Just take your time and research cause those 2 things are never a bad thing LOL

hope some of that helps :)
I am NC also---best of luck to you, can't wait to hear how your adventure moves forward!

Welcome to the CRVL forums Tammy! One hundred thousand miles is not that high for newer vans as long as they have been properly maintained. Ask to see service records and get any van that you are considering buying checked by a reliable mechanic. Good luck with your search!

100k is not much on newer vehicles, I would look into the maintenance records and what the vehicle was used for in its previous life.
So many variables, diesel or gas?  Have a trustworthy mechanic check it out - I prefer the good old boy shops to large/dealer/commercial type shops for honest answers, have not gone wrong yet.

I have been traveling for a bit, had work done on engine etc over a 5 month period, and looked at today in Texas (I am from WI) and the shop gave me great honest advise.

Good luck, go with your gut and be prepared as there are no guarantees with any vehicle.

Female traveler myself.
