Hello everyone. My name is Brenda and I'm seriously considering this nomadic lifestyle. I spent the summers of my younger years in a camper with my grandparents and have had a longing for that time ever since. I've spent a few years "roughing it" on horse ranches and sprawling farmlands from Colorado to the heartland. I'm a tomboy through and through with a bit of common sense sprinkled in, so I'm secure enough in myself to take this leap. I just turned 50 this year and find life passing me by. I've had enough of just getting by and want to live life intentionally and as peacefully as I can in my latter years. I find myself drawn to this nomadic lifestyle more and more. I learned about it some years back and thought it a pipe dream. You know, unattainable. I've been glued to YouTube watching videos on this topic and feel a fire kindling up, a yearning taking hold and this crazy notion that this just may be something I can truly do. So, here I am, latching on to every bit of info I can. I look forward to the journey. Right now I'm wondering about receiving medications/prescriptions while on the road. I imagine that topic has been covered here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I also have to extend the biggest thanks to Bob for this site, his videos and igniting a doable dream for me.

Welcome to the CRVL forums Brenda! Unfortunately, the forum search function is hard to use. Many of us need to fill prescriptions while on the road. Chose a favorite nationwide pharmacy to avoid the problems that sometimes occur when prescriptions are transferred between pharmacies. Most doctors will give you prescriptions for a year's worth of medications refillable every three months although I believe this will not work with some pain medications.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the welcome, and those rules work just fine for me. I'll go off and read your thread suggestion. I do have a bit of a silly question. Is there a way for me to correct my username? I've misspelled. Cringe.

Welcome, Brenda... I get my Rx from Walmart and I can go into any Walmart to get refills. Another option ... some people buy their medications in Mexico , apparently without a prescription. I haven't done that but it might be an easy option depending on circumstances.

HI Brenda sounds like you are itching to hit the road and roam free :)
horse gal here also. We raised Spotted Saddle horses for many years on our farm. Seems crazy to think we are going nomadic soon now cause the farm just hold ya in one spot, can't leave the livestock, but we are done with farms and horses and all and now want free from all that hard work (but fun of course :)) and hit the road.

good advice about widespread chain for filling meds, to get them anywhere at any time....walmarts are everywhere, lol

What rig are you considering and your time line to hit the road? just curious.

Refills aren't my issue it's getting prescriptions renewed. My doctor seems to only want to do 3 months at a time for my BP meds. They want to "check it often". The walk in places can only do 1 month prescription and cost for a visit. I monitor it myself at home and basically tell the doctor what I need. I wish I could get a years worth and then renewed by phone. I take the lowest dosage of BP meds and try to eat well.

Two trips into Mexico (border town) will net you a years worth. You can buy, without a prescription, a six month supply each visit. This could coincide with your visits to the desert southwest during the winter. You cannot buy any narcotics of any kind there. I was buying my wife's dementia meds there until she could no longer travel.

I like the Mexico option. I can monitor my blood pressure myself and decide how much I need to take without a nurse practitioner half my age giving me her stamp of approval every six months.

Walmart. Of course. That was simple. Grin. I never would have considered Mexico. I wonder about the efficacy and safety going that route, though. Thanks for your input. Something to look in to.

Hi Roamer. You know, I passed up an opportunity to get ahold of a Minnie Winnie for a great price last summer. I'm really kicking myself on that. (See what fear does to you.) A smaller class C is my preference, though I'm not sure what bang for my buck I'll be able to afford. In which case I may go with an older van. I see quite a few older conversions that strike my fancy as well. Since I'm in the early stages of this I've got time to investigate and also look into what others are doing and the pros/cons. I'm anxious, yet in no hurry. I really want to make good choices up front.

You don’t have to worry about your little trip into Mexico. Every day at the border crossing in Algodones there is a line of seniors going in and out and everyone you run across there speaks English and will do a back flip to help you. There are many pharmacies one within about thirty steps inside the border. It’s a super easy enter and leave. One time I decided to wait in the RV and John was back within 15 minutes. That had to be some kind of record...

Vintage, smart tho to take your time to decide what you NEED vs. what you desire in a way LOL
cause little things are important if this is gonna be your new home for a while.

Like....do you NEED to stand....can't crouch, crawl, bend over a lot and need that head room...how important is it to you? Storage amt. required a bit more if you are into hobbies that you want to bring.....just take your time, you will find what fits ya :)

Don't be shy to pull the trigger on a rig that seems to suit you, in good shape and hits your fancy cause it is scary to decide to do this, but if you desire on the road, then ya gotta just get on the road and get'er done....you won't be sorry for having that freedom at your fingertips! Good choices are smart but don't let too many choices get ya feeling scared to just jump in at some point and GO FOR IT! Great people and fab adventures out there on the road ;)

Appreciate this input. Always good to have a bit of comforting affirmation.
