Hi folks. I'll be picking up my Forester in a few hours and I'm looking forward to spending the next month decking it out for my summer road trip. I'll be going camping for a few nights in a couple weeks so I will have a practice run. I very much look forward to learning from you experienced cheap-RVers!

Hi kfoxart and welcome. That should be an interesting month for you. I'm looking forward to see the progress.

Have fun.

Nicole

Hi!

What year is yer' Forester ?

Also, where ya' headin' to?

I picked me up a 2012 Forester & diggin' it...

It makes a gr8 bug-out vehicle... Someday when I get it paid off, I'll slap' a lift-kit on 'her & raise 'her up aboot four-more inches. They're gr8 vehicles

My main problem right now is total stealth, workin' & livin' in the city & etc. ...but I have black-out fabric oer' reflectix that I use at nite... Plus I also stay at a farm nearby & it helps a lot too.

Also, I got the "Premium-X" model. It has a moonroof... I just slap my Fantastic fans up there, mounted to gas straps & wood, plug em' in, & it is sufficient enuff' for cooling at nite... I simply stay the heck outa' there when it's daytime burning hot, like a bridegroom in a featherbed-type of hot

-good luck to ya'!

@bobbert

It's a 2003. A lift would be soooo sweet I hope you do it to yours. I also have procured a huge roof pod which will give me a lot more room inside the car itself.
While my Camry had a moonroof that I did not use much, (maybe because it only worked sometimes... long story) I still think I would like my Forester to have one, but I can deal. I have done car-camping for seven years now at festivals and such, and have experienced 100+ degree heat at times, sometimes for days, so I am no stranger to finding room for many gallons of water, and other similar precautionary habits. I will be camping in Rothbury Michigan at the end of June. Then I'll be winding my way out west heading in the general direction of Eugene Oregon. I will have many more destinations lined up very soon, the past few days have been all car-buying stuff so I had to put the planning on hold. I have a couch waiting for me to crash on in Boulder CO so I'll be going there along the way. I'm a painter. KeithFoxStudio.com you can see my work. I'll be painting all along the way, and hunting for old railroad stuff to paint and photograph. I set up a blog (it's crude right now) KFoxArt.tumblr.com so my friends and fans can follow along.

wow dude...

yer' work is amazing!
Some of it is reminiscent of Monet!
Are you gonna sell yer' work around the country?
Do you work in acrylic?

It looks like it's three-dimensional!

us' Forester owners must be birds of a feather, in some sort of way...

I too make some artwork, just for fun... Back in the nineties' I studied commercial art for a couple of years, and switched majors ( I hated being told what to draw, then get told that the client didn't like it, only to re-do it again, and again, and again, and again)...

I drew this up last year when I had some free time while taking care of my sick father:

Hey that's a good charcoal! Nice contrast, excellent hatching. Your experience in commercial art sounds a lot like some commission work I have done. I am hesitant to take any commission nowadays. I work in oil. That painting is a work in progress, 36x60". You can see how relatively underworked the windows are, and much of the left side of the painting. LOTS of paint on there and others like it. I fuss with my studio paintings until they read very 3-D. I like impressionism but I also try to take some work to a level where every shape reads very clearly. These take a very long time to finish. I imagine it will be hard to sell as I go, but I will be shipping work back home where I sell. I am working on a fundraising project at the moment, sort of a sponsorship. I will ship paintings, mostly small ones, to the sponsors while I am on the road. I am building wet-panel boxes in various sizes to store the panels while they dry.
