New to van's but not RV's

I have been following Bob's You Tube videos and researching the site. I have got a 2015 Nissan NV 3500  high top, (my wife calls The Great White Whale), and am in the process of converting it to a camper van. Waiting on weather up here in the north west to finish fan and solar installation. Too cold and wet to prime paint and seal. I missed this years RTR but will be there next year. I have a question about state residency, and income tax. What is the best state? I used Texas when we traveled full time for 7 years. That was 7 years ago and things have changed with laws, requirements, and Patriot Act issues. Any suggestions or thread suggestions would be great! Thanks. Happy Holiday Season to all!

Thanks. Good info. We were leaning toward SD. It will be hard to give up no sales tax here but state income tax and other issues here in Oregon make it too expensive to reside here as we travel. We first travel from our home state of Texas, but they will nickel and dime you to death with registrations, plates and inspections and insurance. Having to go back yearly for car inspection is a real pain!!. Thanks again!
