Hello. My name is Elle. My husband and I just got a 1998 Ford Coachman Class B. We are currently planning a road trip with out two pups Sammy and Hank. But we have never had an Rv or camper before so we have a lot to learn.

Look forward to reading through the forum, happy to be part of the group.

As you are a new RV owner, I assume (Ya, I know) that you will start out staying at RV campgrounds with hookups.  The number one rule (for me anyway) is to not pull both levers (black and grey tank dump) and call it good while hooked up to facilities.  Leave the valves closed and only dump the black tank when it is 2/3 full or fuller.  I always look through the commode opening when flushing while shining a flashlight down there to see exactly how full it is.  Those tank monitors are notoriously inaccurate.  Close valve and dump grey tank to flush hose.

If you leave the black tank valve open, all the liquid will drain leaving the solids behind.  You will end up with a dried pile that will leave you with an expensive repair to correct.  YMMV
