Thanks Bob. As requested here I am,61yo disabled Vet w/Pension have been a loner of sorts all my life love knowledge for its own sake hate power mongers and believe we are not created to live in a box as slaves to any ones belief. That we need little to be happy and peace of mind is something you give your self and helping those who need it and be a friend to as many as need be while staying safe and true to your hearts desire. Do what you will but hurt no one!
Vech: 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 w/camper cover on back, camping gear in back removable shades, port pot, ice chest and kitchen needs.
Travel: I do want to travel but prefer to camp in one spot then move on as needed, City camping makes me edgy, to many eyes and police looking for you in Ca. I will have to return to Sacramento every 3 months or so till I find a place in Southern Ca. to call home safe home ( Niland,Ca. Slabs maybe?)
Income: I do have an income from SSI/SDI and a small VA Pension. As for work I can still do small jobs that do not require lifting over 25 Lbs, or I may find a hobby that earns extra income if needed.
Budget: I currently can save about $500. each month after all bills and food is taken care of.
Plans: To return to a life that I was happy in before I got hurt (run down in the street massive body reconstruction, coma for 3 weeks) when I roamed where I felt free and cut my own trail free to greet new friends and make new family.
Comfort: I am happy in what I have but will move into more space nothing larger than a class B tho. I have camped in my small truck and I had no problem sleeping so that says about all.

twedle2, it sounds like you have got it figured out pretty well!!
Have you been to the Slabs yet? It is a very polarizing place, you either love it or hate it and no telling which till you get there.
A place you might check out very close to there is around Holtville down on Interstae 8. Lots of BLM land and there is a free hot springs in Holtville.
Do you know about LTVAs? They are BLM land that you can live on for 7 month of the year and it costs $170. Of course there is a huge amount of BLM lad you can camp on for free, but it is all 14 day stay. Of course it's easy to find a place with no enforcement of the rules.
It's super easy to camp all summer in the Sierras for free on either the East or West side. Both are incredibly beautiful. Moving from desert to mountains with the seasons is known as being a snowbird!!

Sounds like you've already got a useable set-up, so that's cool. There sure are alotta great places to go camping just up the hills from the Sac-a-tomatoes area.

I am also new to this forum. I live in Portland, Oregon and am interested in anything about 77 (2nd generation?) Toyota Chinooks, since I bought a fixer. Here's my info as per Bob's questions:
Have you got a vehicle home yet? (Yes, a 1977 Toyota Chinook which is currently a project.)
Will you be traveling or staying in one place? (I plan on a shake down trips to friend in Eugene. After that, I leave for.....?)
Do you have an income or do you need to work? (I am newly receiving early Social Security. Cashed in low retirement to put together Chinook. I may have to work but thankfully NOT 9 to 5!)
What's your budget? $700/month. Getting nervous about small nest egg!
What are your plans? (Leaving for 3 months then returning to Portland, Oregon for the summer. Love the water, sailing and kayaking.)
How much room and comfort do you need? (I'm good with the dimensions of the Chinook[/i]. Comfort? I won't know what I need for comfort until I hit the road.)

Thanks everyone sounds great to hear good people reply, sorry I missed the meet this year 2015 RTR but I still had my eyes open as to posting. My heart was there and I posted my picture in my profile so's every one will know me when I cut loose for good. It must be close becuse it was all I thought about these days, still tie'n up loose ends here in Sacramento,CA and planning that move to Parumph somehow (They have a VA clinic there) then find an address and change every thing over and out of this state (CA) I am about to give my 30 day notice and just head out and toss luck to the wind and pray a lot on the way. Catch ya all on the road some where, I have a few things to pick-up along the way. Things like solar and a Van (more room) The American Clipper was way too big for me so I sold it fast and that was a blessing but I needed repairs on the truck soon after and that set me back again. Life is just that LIFE! It just happens and we move through it as best we can. See Ya soon. Tweedle2!
